Today I am welcoming some very special ladies to the website to share some of their wisdom. LJ and Anna are from the amazing website, Love is Your Compass. I’m an avid fan of everything they write and create and am so honoured to have them in our space.
Heart Centered Living
At love is your compass we often talk about “heart centered living” but what does this mean and how can YOU live a heart centered life?
We currently live in a society where the wisdom of the mind, logic and rational thinking is prized over love, empathy, compassion and emotional feeling, yet these things are fundamental to being a healthy human being. In neglecting these valuable aspects of our nature many of us have forgotten how to connect with ourselves.
We do our best to try and thrive in environments which don’t value emotional intelligence, but it can leave so many of us feeling like something is fundamentally missing or that we are off track. As a result, we try to grab little pockets of happiness where we can, often by looking outside of ourselves, but that isn’t where the answers lie.
“heart centered living is about bringing the focus back to what is truly important and that is our inner world, because our inner world creates our individual realities.”
So, what does living a heart centered life mean in practical terms?
♥ CREATE SPACE TO TUNE IN
We believe that we ALL have innate wisdom which means that everything we need to fulfil our own unique soul purposes resides within us. We need not look elsewhere because, all the knowing and wisdom we need is right there within us, if we can but remember HOW to reconnect to access it.
“it’s important to actively create space for ourselves to tune in, access and allow ourselves to be guided by our innate wisdom. The very act of creating a space for ourselves is a commitment to tune in regularly.”
We recommend setting up a space in your home or anywhere that feels appropriate, which is just for you. Ideally this should be a quiet space where you can be alone. There are some tips on how to create a personal space here: “Creating a Personal Altar Space.”
♥ SELF LOVE
Nurturing and having compassion for ourselves, cultivating self-love and forgiveness. One technique for practicing this is to imagine that you are your own best friend and ask yourself:
“What would I do for my best friend if she were in this situation? Would I berate her, judge her or would I give her unconditional love and support?”
Regularly reminding ourselves that we are perfectly imperfect. In Japanese culture there is a concept called “Wabi Sabi” which literally means “acceptance of transience and imperfection” how beautiful is that?
By practicing acceptance and love of every aspect of ourselves we not only improve our relationship with ourselves but with others because our relationship with ourselves is the foundation for our relationships with others.
If you find yourself struggling with self-love, we recommend reading “Happy Mama ~The Guide to Finding yourself Again.” Even if you aren’t a mother because there are SO many useful techniques in this book!
♥ ACTIVELY DISENGAGE FROM FEAR
This can seem hard when we live in a climate so permeated by fear, but one simple step is to switch off the TV, Radio, Internet News to unplug from the constant flow of negative news stories. This is not to say that we should be ignorant of world events, but a reminder to be mindful not to allow fear to permeate us and rule our perceptions and actions.
Another useful technique, particularly when we find ourselves in difficult situations is to ask ourselves:
“Is what we are feeling coming from a foundation of fear or love?”
The answer will usually be very clear and if it is former then going back to step two ~ self-love by doing things to nurture and be kind to yourself will help you shift back into a space of love. The ancient Hawaiian practice of Ho’ oponopono is also really helpful for this, you can find out more about it here: 100% Responsibility.
♥ EMBRACING YOUR HIGHER HEART
Our body’s Chakra system is fascinating, comprised of centres of energy which are energetic transmitting and receiving stations running parallel to the spinal cord. The purpose of this system is to harmonise the flow of Universal Life Force Energy/Chi/Ki (sometimes also referred to as Reiki or Prana) into our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.
Our Chakras receive this energy daily and govern the distribution of this energy to the systems and organs of our bodies, which is why a healthy Chakra system is so important. Perhaps you are already aware of the 7 primary chakras: Root/Base – Sacral – Solar Plexus – Heart – Throat – Third Eye and Crown. There is also a lesser known Chakra referred to as the Higher Heart/Thymic Chakra, sometimes called the “Seat of the Soul.”
The Higher Heart, lies between the Heart and Throat Chakras and pulls energy from both, serving as the bridge between our emotions and our reason/logic. It is this Chakra which allows us to receive true soul guidance and experience unconditional love through connection to our higher selves.
So, keeping our Chakra systems healthy is another important aspect of living a heart centered life. It’s relatively easy to keep your Chakra system in good shape with regular meditation.
Here’s a link to a couple of our favourite chakra meditations:
Note: To apply either of these meditations to your Higher Heart Chakra, simply place both hands over your Higher Heart Chakra and follow the same process outlined in each meditation for each of the other chakras.
Finally, focusing on cultivating trust in our inner wisdom when we receive it and most importantly acting upon it. This can feel hard at times, particularly when the road ahead doesn’t seem clear and the need to control everything and to know the how and the why feels so strong. It is at these times that it’s good to practice daily mantras for letting go and trusting:
“I trust that I have all the answers within me, all I need is to pause, listen and let go.”
“I trust that my divine inner compass is always steering me towards my highest good.”
Happy heart centered living!
