Walking on the beach or at the park, yoga, chilling on the couch with Mr Darcy, snuggling up in bed with a book, sitting on my back deck with a chai listening to the birds, soaking in an aromatherapy bath.
What do all these things have in common? They all form part of my ‘self care blueprint’.
Sooooo……what’s a ‘self care blueprint’?
A self care blueprint is “an individualised action plan that is based on the pillars of Self-care, Self-knowledge and Self-love©. You will leave with a tangible, workable self-care plan aligned with your current life circumstances, your core values, and designed to enhance your self-worth and well-being!”
In June, I participated in this fabulous online e-course, run by Deb Dane, from Home Life Simplified and Kirri White from Happy Mums at Home. You might remember me talking about it on the blog. We received daily emails to print out and workshop (about 15 minutes) and a Facebook group to discuss things further. I did work at my own pace for some of that time, it’s very flexible.
I came out of those 30 days stronger, wiser, happier in myself and optimistic about the future. I discovered that I need prioritize my self-care and what my core life values were. I learnt that when I start feeling cranky or overwhelmed, it’s time to stop and take care of my needs.
Deb and Kirri have kindly offered one of my readers the opportunity to win a place in the course! Woohooo……. one of you is going to have your life changed!

Mmmmmm my perfect hour of self-care looks like …… pampering in a Balinese spa….essential oils …. massage which feels like ripples on water …. warmth on my back from the hot stone massage….and a blissful head massage :O)
My perfect hour of self care would begin with a shower without my 6 month old crying in the background and unlimited hot water, followed by a coffee that little Mia has not dribbled in!!
I can think of nothing better than sitting in a cosy armchair by an open fire and reading a book that I can get lost in. What a way to recharge the batteries.
I don’t get alot of time to myself these days. This may sound silly to some, give me a good coffee, some yummy lamingtons and re-runs of the Golden Girls and I am very happy 🙂
One hour? ALONE?!!! Play my cello whilst reading a good book in the garden as I plant veggies, listen to the birds, drink a HOT cup of tea and nap in the hammock… Actually just a hot cup of tea by myself would be nice (closes eyes and daydreams).
oh my gosh and hour alone time………………most of me says sleep as I have 4 kids BUT I do think I would run up a hill to a look out and watch the sunset and remind myself how lucky I am. (because I do need reminding sometimes, ok a lot!)
It’s amazing what insights can arise whilst walking, so I would start with a 50 minute walk with the intention of being clearer about connection between values and life purpose. Time for a 10 minutes shower before continuing the day with a renewed sense of vigour and appreciation!
I would use the time to catch up on reading or ring a girlfriend up interstate for a chat and gossip to recharge my batteries.
My perfect hour would have NO list of things to do, pooping guinea pigs, meowing cats, caring duties, study schedules, appointments, deadlines. I LOVE my life and I adore these things. But 1 hour would be nice. Plus a massage – preferably by a gorgeous guy named Sven.
Hmmm, one hour… bit of DIY pampering. Dry skin brushing and avocado & honey face mask, followed by salt and sugar body scrub, quick rinse followed by bath with gorgeous essential oils and then a coat of coconut oil top to toes. If there is still time sit down and bliss out with a cuppa herbal tea. Aaaahhhhh:)
My hour of self care would be to soak my feet with my head back, sitting in the sun and listening to some music.
I dream of a massage to get rid of all that built up tension. Beyond a massage, a deep hot bath, then reading a book on the balcony would be perfect.
My hour of self care would be to sit in bed and flip through magazines with a hot cup of jasmine green tea and peace and quiet.
Recipe for a Self Care Hour.
Ingredients:
• A few minutes of mindful prayer
• A glass of water (or lemon juice) drunk without interruption.
• A chance to sit in the warm sunlight and be in the present.
• Deep breaths to refocus the mind.
Mix together slowly, savouring each moment with thankfulness.
Right now I need psychological self care most…so I’d love to be able to sit on a deck chair in the sun listening to my favourite tunes on my ipod and singing along at the top of my voice pretending no one can hear me…with a fruit cocktail 😉
