Magnesium: This could be your new best friend!

July 14, 2014 · 131 Comments

I first came across Amazing Oils Magnesium several years ago at the Eumundi Markets.

The lovely stall holder sprayed a bit on my sore neck and rubbed it in. Wayhay… it felt better! So I bought a bottle and haven’t looked back. Since then, I have learnt more about magnesium and why it really is a wonder mineral. Magnesium deficiency seems to be very common today and just using some magnesium oil daily can make you feel so much better and help a wide variety of ailments.

I asked the Harold family from Amazing Oils some questions about magnesium and they are also kindly giving away some of their amazing product! Read on…..

What is Magnesium?

Magnesium is the 8th most common mineral in the Earth’s crust. It is important for humans but equally as important for animals and plants.

What does Magnesium do in the body?

The simple answer is – almost everything. Of the almost 1600 systems of the human body, 1200 require Magnesium in order to function. Systems such as the cardio-vascular system (heart health) and cognitive function (brain health) are particularly vulnerable to a lack of magnesium.

[box] It is estimated that over 90% of humans are magnesium deficient.[/box]

How can you tell if you are deficient in Magnesium?

There are numerous symptoms of magnesium deficiency. From a general lack of energy, through to aches and pains and tight or cramping muscles, many common symptoms of stress can be traced to a lack of this intrinsic mineral. Headaches, migraines, insomnia, joint pain, and even such things as depression and anxiety can respond very quickly to a raising of the body’s magnesium levels, often within a few seconds of application.

What are the benefits of using Magnesium daily?

* Increases the release of DHEA – our youth hormone

* Encourages healthy, glowing skin

* Supports the repair of damaged skin cells

* Helps to facilitate safe and effective detoxification

* Helps relieve muscular aches and pains, cramps and spasms

* Relieves sore throats

* Improves muscle function

* A natural cellular protectant

* Increases energy levels

* Elevates moods and helps to relieve stress

* Supports a healthy immune system

* Helps to calm overactive nerves

* Supports the balance of the hormonal system

* Improves insomnia and sleep quality

* Alleviates eye twitching

* Relieves growing pains

* Supplemented with calcium, may help reverse osteoporosis

* Helps regulate high blood pressure

* May help lower the risk of coronary heart diseases

* Helps decrease the risk of diabetes

* Treats migraines and headaches

* Helps calm the symptoms of depression,  panic attacks and anxiety

* Relief from PMS and menopause symptoms

Why oil and flakes? What about food and tablets?

Using Magnesium Chloride transdermally (on the skin) is 100 times more effective than using oral supplementation. Unfortunately, food sources are quite low in magnesium due to depletion in our soils. So, for best results we recommend using magnesium oil on the body or soaking in magnesium chloride flakes.

Hang on, isn’t this the same as Epsom Salts?

No, epsom salts is magnesium sulphate. Our magnesium products are magnesium chloride and are 12 times stronger than your common epsom salts. This is due to the difference in the magnesium molecule (chloride is the way the body best absorbs the mineral), as opposed to sulfate, a larger, less concentrated molecule aka epsom salts. It’s fantastic in the bath for relaxing muscles and reducing tightness in the body.

(I can attest to this – an Amazing Oils bath reduces my body to jelly! Love it. Sonia)

How do you use it?

* Spray a little on feet and lower legs for a good night’s sleep

* Spray under armpits and knees for general health

* Rub into temples for headaches and migraines

* Rub straight into sore muscles for almost instant relief

* Gargle to fix colds and sore throats

* Rub on the chest to lower blood pressure

* Apply to the face to repair damaged skin

* Soak in a bath with the flakes

Be aware that if you have sensitive skin or are very deficient, the spray may tingle or sting a little. Use the oil after bathing for a week or so until your body becomes used to it. You can also use it on your feet, which are typically less sensitive.

Who are Amazing Oils and how did the business come about?

We are a family of yoga teachers, and have been teaching students and training teachers for 30 years. We discovered the Magnesium Oil by accident, looking for something to help my dad get through chemotherapy. Four years later with two years of research and testing, we are still as excited by this amazing natural product as ever.
We began offering the Magnesium Spray (which is from the deserts of WA) at our local markets in Eumundi. The results were so amazing that I took a few (shaky) videos with my iPhone.  As you can see, this product actually provides effective pain-relief within 30 seconds of being applied – even pain that has persisted for decades.

Where do you get it from?

Check in your local health food store or pharmacy, but you can also buy direct from us online.

    Oh wow this is very interesting. We just took my 7 year old son to a chiropractor for sleep and bed-wetting issues and one of the supplements he was put on was magnesium chloride (drops). I’ve been searching info about it and this makes it all make sense to me. I would love to try this pack to see if the spray and bath makes a difference for him. And I’m sure it will be beneficial to the rest of the family too!

    I am fascinated by magnesium and would love to win this pack (for myself and my children!). I suffered heart palpitations and no doctor was unable to explain why, despite a multitude of tests. I came across magnesium on the internet and it suggested that it might be useful for palpitations – so I started taking tablets – and amazingly, the palpitations went within a week. I also have a child who suffers from anxiety and I would love to see the effect that these magnesium products would have on her.

    I too cant read this page either…it has a big white panel running through it.

    I use this magnesium spray and swear by it. I use it on the souls of our feet when we cant sleep and my husband uses it around his neck and temples to prevent migraines…after hundreds of dollars spent on skeletal alignments adjustments, this is the only thing that prevents them coming on.
    Be careful though not to use too much magnesium as it affects the other minerals in the body. We discvered this first hand after a hair analysis test came back with super high magnesium levels and lower in others.

    It would definitely be of financial assistance to win this pack and let my loved ones try out these products. My mum has been suffering from mood swings for as long as I remember, but she gets diarrhea from magnesium supplements; my Dad just underwent triple bypass; my brother developed a pinched nerve in his neck causing him chronic pain and he also has a twitching eye; my husband and daughter has eczema and “chicken skin”; my little boy got admitted to hospital due to leg/hip pain which prevented him from sitting up; I have shoulder and lower back pain despite chiropractic care. The only person who doesn’t appear to have any aches and pain is my middle child – God bless him! LOL!

    Have been reading with interest about oils and would really love to try and see if they actually work! I think hubby would benefit immensely as he is always working for hours on end on his feet and often has sore and achy body and muscles. I would like to have something easy and convenient on hand to use instead of riding out particular symptoms or giving into something synthetic and processed prescribed by a doctor!

    Been suffering stress and anxiety for over 2.5 years. Been through the wars with my health, and it has affected my body to the extreme, where i thought something was really wrong with me and I thought i was going to do with the shock of my body and the pain and symptoms i was receiving was scary. Had undergo MRI, Ultra scan , see a neurologist to make sure I was not suffering from some kind of illness. I defiantly need to have my nervous system calmed down, and be able to get back onto of things and life a normal everyday life without being panicked

    I broke my fibula and tibia (both leg ankle bones) doing a women’s learn to surf group in March this year. I have had 8 screws and a metal plate placed in my ankle. Some nights its awkward to get comfy and find a way to sleep so this screws don’t make me ache. I love the idea of not needing to take Panadol or pain killers before bed. I’d love to try this natural approach 🙂

    I love this post, thank you so much. I’d love to win this pack for my family, but mostly my husband. When he was 17 he had a major motorbike accident and broke most of the bones in his body. He had to learn to walk again, which he did, thankfully. Now that he is 50, he is having so many problems with his hips and spine. We are doing what we can to avoid traditional doctor routes, and so he is taking some magnesium, but this stuff looks way better! Thanks for sharing this info.

    I used to suffer from ‘groggy like’ headaches every morning as a consequence from constantly grinding and clenching my teeth throughout the night. After a bit of research I discovered that taking magnesium before bedtime could help relieve this pain. It HAS made a massive positive impact on my life. I wake up feeling refreshed in the morning. In saying that I’d love to explore different ways to include magnesium in my diet and winning this could definitely do that! 🙂

    Does anybody know how – or why – Magnesium Chloride (magnesium oil) softens hair?

    I’d have thought it would make it dry and brittle but my sister massaged some into her scalp and the lenghts of her hair one evening. She has very long hair with lots of bleached streaks in it. She said it felt pretty disgusting in her hair, but she left it in overnight anyway just to see what would happen.

    After she washed and conditioned her hair the next morning and let it air dry, it was softer and smoother than it’s ever been – so then I tried it – and had the same result, only I use a different brand to her (she has the more expensive brand, I used an Aussie made, cheaper version). No matter how many times we both use magnesium oil on our hair, we both consistently have the same results.

    She tried asking one company how, what’s basically sea water, could do something like that, but all they came back with was “salt softens”…no technical or scientific data to back it up, just “salt softens”.

    We really don’t know who else to ask about it – there’s absolutely nothing other than anecdotal comments on the internet about using it as a scalp treatment, but nothing about what we’ve discovered – and it’s driving us both nuts!
