Berry Bubble Protein Bars

February 14, 2014 · 148 Comments

Berry Bubble Protein Bars

I haven’t really bothered with protein powders before.

One look at the ingredients in some of them is enough to scare you off! Artificial additives, sweeteners, refined sugars – yuk! According to Sally Fallon at The Weston A Price Foundation, some protein powders are very nasty.

Knowing this, the clever people at Nutra Organics have worked tirelessly in sourcing and formulating an alternative – a healthy, natural protein powder. One thing that always stands out about Nutra Organics is that they are highly ethical. Vanessa, Darlsy and all the people who work there bring their kids up on these products and they make sure that only the highest quality ingredients are used. I was surprised to learn just how much research and work goes into it!

Thriving Protein Powder

Thriving Protein is pretty special and unique in the market place. There is nothing quite like it.

♥ raw (so no high heat denaturing the protein)

♥ dairy free (no whey)

♥ vegan

♥ gluten free

♥ corn free

♥ GMO free

♥ soy free

♥ sugar free

♥ organic

♥ bio-fermented (acts as a probiotic)

♥ high vitamin D mushroom powder

♥ iron, magnesium, calcium, selenium, manganese, Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, Vitamin C, folate and zinc!

♥ omega 3 fatty acids

You can find a full ingredient list on the Nutra Organics website.

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to like them (sssh don’t tell Vanessa!) Having had a bad experience with nasty tasting, floury protein powders in the past, I thought it just wasn’t my thing. What I wasn’t expecting was the delicious flavours – it pretty much tastes like a chocolate or vanilla milkshake when you pop it in a glass of milk. Brilliant.

And did they past the kid test? We all know this is the hardest one to pass! Yes, it did. Both kids think they are really yummy.  I have really noticed that when they have Thriving Protein after school, it fills them up. They are not snacking to the huge extent they were before (yes teenagers really do eat you out of house and home, especially when they do a lot of sport!) It was getting very expensive to feed them, so I appreciate having something that will satisfy their appetites with amazing quality nutrition.

So, how do you use Thriving Protein powder?

Well the list is endless. Pop it in a glass of milk or milk substitute. Use it in smoothies and paddle pops. Sprinkle it on oats. Mix it into yoghurt. Pop it into bliss balls. Use it in recipes.

Here is one recipe I have come up with that you can give a go. It’s a lot more natural and budget friendly than a ready made protein bar. I hope you like it!

Berry Bubble Protein Bars

Berry Bubble Protein Bars

Vital Stats: Gluten Free, Egg Free, Nut Free, Sugar Free

Okay, so this is what you need:

2 cups organic puffed brown rice

1 1/2 cups organic virgin coconut oil

4 tablespoons Thriving Protein Exotic Vanilla powder

3 tablespoons C-Berry Blast or Acai Berry Blend powder

1/4 cup goji berries

1/2 cup organic cranberries

1/4 cup organic coconut flakes

[box] HOT TIP: Use any sort of dried berry you like. Just make sure it doesn’t contain any artificial additives.[/box]

Okay, so this is how you do it:

Whisk the Thriving Protein powder and the C-Berry Blast or Acai Berry Blend powder into the coconut oil.

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.

Pour into a baking paper lined slice tin.

Refrigerate until set. Cut into bars.

You will need to store this in the fridge.

Yum looks good. I would love to try any of the flavors but maybe the chocolate one the most. My youngest is dairy free and I have been trying to find a good vegan protein powder to add to her baking this would be perfect.

I would love to try the exotic vanilla please. I have a teenage boy who has multiple allergies/intolerance’s and is very active. Trying to keep him at a healthy weight is such a challenge in our home. He has asked for other protein powders but i have been very reluctant to get them because of all the other additives. Thank you for bringing an ethical company to our notice. 😀

Ditto about protein powders!!! I had a peep at their web-site though and I agree, looks pretty natural and yummo and super duper nutritious!!!! Given the quality of ingredients, I now understand their cost!! My fam sooo wouldn’t be fussy with any of the yum flavours – but i”ll humour myself and say choc coconut anyway xox Happy Valentines!!

It is delicious, not floury (as one might expect from pea protein) or unpleasant/boring/ unpalatable at all. I have an extemely fussy teenage boy and he loves it. We have the Cacao Choc. Exotic vanilla sounds fancy! And yum. I’m don’t eat as well as I should (or at all sometimes!) so I think I’ll need to buy some if I’m not a lucky winner. Quick easy way to get some goodness into me.

Any flavour please. My eldest (6) does not like eating meat, so our go to protein for her was beans. Now her younger sister is intolerant to legumes, and other things, so I can’t serve her sister baked beans as it was her favourite meal.
To be able to get some proteins into miss 6 without argument would save me many hassles while her sister is on the elimination diet and we do food challenges.
    Thanks

I’d love to try the cacao choc. The perfect way to sate my sweet tooth in a healthy way! Unlike others, I am actually trying to put on weight and am sick of protein powders that taste terrible. I’d love to try the Thriving Protein range.

I’m leaning towards the Exotic Vanilla- you could add it to mini muffins, protein bars & then add simple touches like a frozen banana to make the most amazing smoothies!

I saw these when you posted them on fb the other week. They look so delicious. As im a hater of breakfast and only starting to tey new things since trying some of your ideas the other day, I would love the vanilla one as you can mix it with other flavours. I would love to be able to have a healthy sgake in the morning before kindy drop off. And it would be great for my daughter as she isnt a big breakfast fan either. 🙂

Although I would love the vanilla for my breakfast smoothies I think the cacao choc could be the perfect thing to get my super fussy 8 year old to have a healthy, nutritious brekky. I’m so over the begging for up and go’s. Thanks for sharing xx

Seriously, I had almost given up on protein shakes because I’m too picky about all the ingredients and crap you find in most brands.

Plus … I have to look for a paleo one for Miss H that doesn’t taste horrendo!…

We would love any flavour, but Coconut Choc would be our choice … yummy!

Chocolate please for two reasons 1) Master 3 misses his chocolate milkshakes sooooo much since he went dairy free for health reasons and nothing i’ve bought so far has worked as a substitute and 2) i am supposed to feed Master 3 protein with EVERY meal and its crazy hard as he is super fussy due to sensory issues 🙂
