Magnesium is a truly incredible nutrient. What more can you say about a mineral that is essential for the function of every single cell in your body? Experience the benefits of transdermal magnesium therapy, while simultaneously replenishing the skin and delighting your senses: does it really get any better than that?
DIY Magnesium Body Butter
Okay, this is what you need:
1/4 cup organic extra virigin coconut Oil
1/2 cup unrefined cocoa or shea butter
1/4 cup Amazing Oils magnesium oil
5 – 10 drops of essential oils
Okay, this is how you do it:
1. In a double boiler or over low heat, melt coconut oil and butter.
2. Pour into medium-sized bowl and let cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until it begins to get opaque.
3. Using a stand mixer or hand blender with the whipping attachment, start to whip together the oils.
4. Ever so slowly, begin to add in the magnesium oil until well combined. At this point you can also add essential oils of your choice.
5. Place in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes until it is semi-solid and then reblend. It is best to set the lotion in this way so that it whips up giving it a divinely fluffy texture.
6. Scoop into glass jars and store in the refrigerator. The body butter will be firm when you first start to apply, but melts nicely into the skin and absorbs rapidly.
7. Massage liberally into your beautiful body!
What is magnesium good for?
Magnesium is a mineral most of us are lacking in. It is wonderful to help alleviate signs of stress and is a fantastic rejuvenator for the skin. Magnesium is said to be 30 times more powerful taken trans-dermal, through the skin than being taken orally. This is the fastest way to increase your Magnesium levels and aid in ailments such as cramping, headaches, migraines, restless legs, arthritis, colds and flu, anxiety, insomnia, aches and pains, even hair loss!
“Every single cell in the human body demands adequate magnesium to function, or it will perish. Strong bones and teeth, balanced hormones, a healthy nervous and cardiovascular system, well-functioning detoxification pathways and much more depend upon cellular magnesium sufficiency. Soft tissue containing the highest concentrations of magnesium in the body include the brain and the heart—two organs that produce a large amount of electrical activity, and which can be especially vulnerable to magnesium insufficiency” from this article at Weston A Price Foundation.
Do you make your own beauty products?
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe….
my pleasure Debbie – let me know what you think!
I used to make my own skincare all the time, but have got a little busy (or it has become less of a priority). I love the magnesium soak from power superfoods when I am sore
Is it magnesium chloride? the Amazing Oils girls do a magnesium chloride and it is soooo relaxing!!! totally love it 🙂
Oh, I love the look of this! I was just telling (yet another) friend today about your chest rub. I used straight coconut oil as a moisturiser this morning but I’m sure I’m desperate for magnesium so will whip up some of this asap. Thanks xx
have you tried magnesium before? I find it so beneficial – I think there a lot of people deficient! I make sure I have a bath once a week and at night I put the spray on my feet to help me sleep 🙂
Can you please share the recipe for the chest rub? 🙂
https://naturalnewagemum.com/make-your-own-natural-chest-rub/ is this the one you mean Rachael?
Can’t wait to try this!!! Sounds amazing xx
it’s very, very decadent!
My Dr told me I was magnesium deficient a few years ago. I just forgot.
I always leave your blog with a little more knowledge and a little more motivation 🙂
Get into some mag oil or baths – you will feel lots better!!! 🙂
Where do you buy the Magnesium oil from?
HI Gloria – there are links in the blog post – just click on the blue bits !
I’d like to give this a try. Thanks for sharing. I have a Thermie. Can this be whipped up in it?
yes, but it needs to be chilled first and then whipped with the butterfly! it takes a little bit of trial and error!
Tried it & loved it! I used Helichrysum and Melissa Essential oils instead, as that’s just what I felt like. What a great recipe and the bonus is my skin feels wonderful!!
Thank you!
wow!! I have never tried those oils and now I am curious!
Both are YL oils 🙂 Helichrysum is what L’Occitane use in their Precious Cream. It has great skin benefits and I also love the fragrance of the two oils – quite citrus-y.
You’ll laugh – I haven’t been able to stop using the body butter since I made it this morning!
Is cocoa butter the same as cacao butter??
as far as I know it is 🙂
The oil I have BURNS. Feels like a bad sunburn. Lasts about an hour…Does the magnesium oil mixed with the other oils cut the burning sensation down??
yes, it usually means you are deficient as far as I know! 🙂 you may be better with a supplement or a bath
I did stages 1 and 2 about 8 hours ago – the mix is still liquid, not opaque in the slightest…have I done something wrong?
Hi Jules, I am not sure. I guess there are a few factors which will influence how it works out.
