Healthy Hot Cross Buns

April 9, 2014 · 18 Comments

Healthy hot cross buns

Such a thing does exist!

The commercial hot cross buns you buy are laden with additives, hydrogenated vegetable oils and lots of sugar. Read your labels and check them out. Better still, make your own!

Sure, these take a bit more time and effort, but I think it’s great. Get back to slow cooking and make it a family tradition. Plus, you won’t eat as many if you have to make them!

Check out these amazing recipes from very clever food bloggers. Serve them with lashing of organic butter!

Enjoy!

Yum, thanks for all these Sonia! I do make my own hot cross buns, but I haven’t made any for a while. Think I made some way back before Easter season was really here (but they were already in the shops), but not since. I will definitely be making some for Easter though, and maybe I will take a look at these recipes and try something new! 🙂

In years past I have made Vegie Smugglers Hot Happy Buns (and posted my very picturesque results on Facebook “Some Cross, some happy!”). Was thinking of giving Georgia’s Buffins a go this year… I also read about a custom-made surprise centre for Hot X Buns involving butter, brown sugar and cinnamon made into a paste and put in the centre of the buns – Mmmmm
