How to rescue your burnt pans, naturally!
I may or may not have burnt the bejesus out of one of my good stainless steel Scanpan saucepans while I was chatting on Facebook one day.
It got scrubbed. It went through the dishwasher several times. Still black. Still very baked-on.
Then, I remembered a little tip I heard at the kitchen store I used to work at and decided to give it a go!
So, this is how you do it:
Get your pan with the burnt bum. Chuck it on the stove and fill about a quarter of the way with water.
Add three to four teaspoons (or more depending on how big your pot is) of Kin Kin Naturals dishwasher powder.
Allow to simmer on a low heat for a few hours or however long it takes. The burnt stuff will magically lift off ! No scrubbing! Just wash and rinse as normal.
Now, I wouldn’t go trying this with a normal dishwasher powder, because the toxic fumes they will give off are going to be very nasty. But, Kin Kin Naturals products are all natural.
You could try bicarbonate of soda if you don’t have the dishwasher powder, but I have tried this before with limited success.
I was so impressed with how effortless and easy this was, all of my pans got a new lease of life!
Okay, so you no longer have to throw out those saucepans, pots and frypans (or hide them down the back garden like Mumma Jae from Learning, Living, Loving), just revive them instead.
No-one will ever know you were chatting on Facebook and burnt the dinner!
PS check out what pans I recommend as the safest here
thats a great idea! Just cant get that where I am, but will try something else. I have also managed to clean burned pots by leaving silver cutlery in some water in it over night, for some odd reason that cleanse it also ! 🙂
Another idea that my mother does is throw the pot/pan out in the backyard and let’s the sun do it’s work. After a day or two under the sun, the burnt stuff/crap has dried up and peeled off! Amazing!
I have never heard of those ideas – thanks for sharing!
I use the Kin Kin stuff for my hand washing, it’s great!
Good idea, I’ll have to try it one day, if I ever need it! I ordered the Kin Kin stuff online, it’s so good as it’s really hard to find a truly natural dishwasher solution!
I burnt the bottom of a pot once and I just sprinkled bicarb in it, poured over a bit of vinegar and left it for ages. It hardened into a kind of paste and then I was able to just scrub it all off. Definitely liking the idea of a no scrub method though!
Such a great tip. Thanks. I always remember when we were young and went camping and we used sand to clean our pan. I wondered why mum ever used scrubbers, when sand worked so well.
that’s a great tip – if only I lived closer to the beach!
handy to know… i destroyed our steaming saucepan 3 times while pregnant (la la la)…(kept forgetting to put water in it). one time my hubby put some sort of stainless steel scourer on his drill and cleaned it that way haha! ah… this would have been easier;-)
Kin Kin products are amazing! I also use the Laundry Soaker in my toilet bowls to get them clean (I have 4 boys) works great.
I am going to try that Amanda!
I learnt from my Mum to put them out in the sun too! Sometimes I have a few of them lined up,lol. Works a treat though.
I have never tried that Rose!!
