Now that the kids have gone back to school (whew!) I am giving the house a good clean up!
All of us have been using the method cleaning range for the last few months and seeing how they perform. I hadn’t really heard of them before and was curious that I had been missing out on an eco-friendly brand!
Okay, so who are method ?
Americans, Adam Lowry and Eric Ryan, two former roommates came up with method in 2001. They are ‘the people against dirty’. Creating eco-friendly cleaning products that actually work, they have taken the world by storm with their funky, fun packaging and unique marketing approach. In 2008, enjo Australia founder, Barb Di Corti brought them to Australia as an exclusive stockist.
Are they really green?
Let me give you a brief run down:
- non toxic
- made with naturally derived, biodegradable ingredients
- ingredients and packaging materials are assessed by an independent research institute (EPEA)
- not tested on animals
- packaging is recyclable and made from recycled plastic
- actively try to reduce their carbon footprint
- use the precautionary principle: unless they can conclude that an ingredient is safe for people and the planet, they don’t use it
- low levels of safe, approved preservatives are used
I must say they are very transparent and I am quite impressed at the information provided and the thoroughness of the processes. You can read more here and get a full list of ingredients here.
How does it perform?
Brilliantly!! I was pretty impressed and it’s hard to impress me when it comes to cleaning. I pretty much hate cleaning and using bicarb and vinegar does require a bit of elbow grease and rinsing. These products just whip through the dirt and scuzz really well. No rinsing required, just a wet cloth and a squirt and Bob’s your uncle!
The Natural New Age Dad is the main washer-upperer and he thought the washing up detergent was pretty good. The kids also do a fair bit of cleaning and were loving the bathroom products for how quick and easy they worked. The laundry detergent washed our clothes just as well as any other product we have tried. I really loved how great the glass cleaner was – it cleans well and no streaking!! The floor cleaner was also one of the best I have ever tried. I would definitely use these products again and I am keen to see what their dishwashing tablets are like.
Yeah, we like it!
Positives?
- I am really digging the whole eco-friendly philosophy of the company – they really walk the talk.
- Totally getting a giggle out of the funny and quirky stuff on the packaging (see photo) – I mean who doesn’t want to make cleaning a bit more fun? Also check out their ‘clean happy’ videos for more laughs.
- I loved the easy to use pump on the laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid. It’s such a great idea as there is minimal wastage (ie no kids pouring out loads of stuff!)
- It’s very reasonably priced and easily compares favourably in the market place with other brands.
- It works.
Negatives?
- Small amounts of preservatives are still used.
- Some of the fragrance was a little strong for me in confined spaces, but I have a strong sense of smell. It didn’t seem to worry anyone else.
- It’s a bit hard to get your hands on. There are a small amount of stockists and online purchasing available. I would love to see it a bit more widely available.

Bathrooms…I hate cleaning the bathrooms! Never ending…especially with two dirty boys!!!
I really hate ALL cleaning! So anything that makes it easier would be much appreciated, thanks.
Cleaning the kitty litter tray – that cat pee smell is the worst!
Thank you for the giveaway. One job I don’t like to do is cleaning the glass shower
Floors – any, and bathroom tiles! Essential jobs, I know, but never-ending and I am so not into housework!
Soap scum in the shower is the pits. Spent ages today trying to clean it off with natural concoctions, but in the end had to revert to using chemicals 🙁 I would love to find a healthier alternative that works.
I despise that Bathroom that always seems to shout at me ‘clean me clean me, I dare you’. We did renovations two years ago and went ahead with the typical bathroom tiles, not thinking to look into anything different. Those darn tiles, the ‘bug bear’ of my existence, mould always forming in the grout and in those hard to reach tiny places. If I had my time over again I would have investigated into the one piece floor to ceiling flat panelling. But now I have the tiles, I have to live with them.
The bathroom would be the worse cleaning place for me!!! But then theres the floors, because we live close to the beach they are never clean! Would love try theses products 🙂
I am a subscriber to your page and already a liker of Method Australia
I REALLY hate cleaning the dining table after the kids have eaten at it… especially if the meal is rice or saucy… oh god the mess hahahaha
I have developed an utter hatred of cleaning the floors. It was never the most fun job in the world but now that we’ve moved into a fully tiled home I absolutely loathe it! No matter how many times a week I scrub and mop the floors my three kids 5yrs and under leave them looking filthy again in no time… I’m thinking I might get them all a pair of those novelty ‘mop-slippers’ so they CAN clean the floors as they walk around! 😀
THE SHOWER – for 2 reasons…. I wear prescription glasses, which I have to take off in the shower so then I cant see properly to clean, so I clean with the shower off….and secondly the toxic smells are so powerful and go straight up your nose!! lol
The OVEN!!! the gas stove top is always grimey and greasy and the inside is the same 🙂 and i refuse to use the standard oven cleaners – toxic!! would love to try this range!
Definately the oven
The shower! I live in an old unit, and the tiles are not the best. They always look dirty even when I scrub them.
Cleaning the shower- hate that no matter what I try the grout between the tiles still looks dirty!
The bathroom – especially now our family has moved from a 2 bathroom house to a 1 bathroom one. Sharing with a teenage boy and 2 girls (7 and 4) – not nice at all 🙁
I hate cleaning the shower drain with all the hair , soap and grime
I hate dusting and mopping. Dusting just seems pointless and my kids will no doubt spill something as soon as the mopping is done, after they feel the need to walk through the wet, drying floor.
I dislike cleaning the shower drain with all the hair, soap and grime
Just been to an enjo party last night and saw the method products for the first time, however didn’t buy as I’ve just bought a whole heap of new cleaning stuff from another party (norwex) so would really love to try them out and especially see if they are good for cloth nappies! Honestly I hate most cleaning and really only use a cloth, water and some elbow grease, so anything natural to help is a bonus 🙂 !
I hate cleaning the shower screens with a passion! Especially hate being in such a small confined space with stinky products. Hopefully these products smell nice!
The shower – no matter what I try – natural or not, I can’t seem to get the showerscreen nice and squeeky clean.
FLOORS! Sometimes I feel I could feed a 3rd world community off our floors after a day at home, and moping/scrubbing is my last ‘to do’ job. I hate that there is never a time the floor is gorgeously clean, and haven’t found anything to cut through those dried milk spills. Love to give method a go. Thanks for the opportunity.
hmmm is hard to choose one type of cleaning i dont like…. ooo actually maybe cleaning the oven i dont mind doing the dishes or washing…. so everything else … meh pass
hate cleaning the shower. even with just the steam cleaner, yukky job
I totally hate floors and carpets. They seem to get dirty a minute after I mop. Bathroom screen doors are also not cool. I can’t seem to get them clear. And oven cleaning is awful. I think the worst for me is oven. It doesn’t get done that often though.
I hate cleaning the shower and toilet
I would love to try these products. I have cleaning the oven and mopping the floor the most, but I dislike cleaning in general, and as you say, bicarb and vinegar can be hard work!
Great giveaway!
I can’t stand mopping the floors… We have a big spacious living area, all tiles and it seems they are always looking dirty very easily, even not long after a clean. It seems there’s no “hiding” anything on tiles and it’s really boring mopping floors over and over lol!!
Coming an easy second is cleaning the shower. Such an awkward space and I come out saturated no matter how careful I am!
There’s a plus side to the above dreaded jobs, they’re always a good workout!!
🙂
Hmmm, I mostly hate cleaning full stop…but if I had to pick a room? Bathroom 🙂
The bathroom, in particular the shower and toilets. Worst job ever! I am always looking for more eco friendly dishwasher and laundry ideas too so these products have sparked my interest!
Hate cleaning the shower!
Windows!!!!
Cleaning the shower would have to be my most disliked chore, but with a new baby coming along I would like to ensure that all surfaces are nice and clean. Using eco friendly products would make me feel better about what i was doing to the environment.
Oh dear…I hate EVERY cleaning job. It’s just too hard with kiddies!
But ok, if I must choose one…the mirrored wardrobes!
Showers!! – cannot stand scrubbing showers – especially as I have 2 sons!!!! Ewwwwwww
It’s got to be the oven. Yuk.
Floors! My pet peeve, especially with a 10 mth old crawler and 4 year old runner!
Cant stand cleaning the dishes..
I don’t just hate cleaning the bathroom – I loathe it. All that time & effort & not much to show for it.
The shower! Seriously, I looked in a plumbing catalogue recently, saw the price of a shower base and screen and contemplated replacing the lot because avoiding scrubbing that damn thing is worth the money! LOL.
The shower – in fact, I rarely clean it other than a splash of bi-carb and vinegar every now and then!
The shower glass really irks me
I hate cleaning my toilet. Two little boys make it a continuous task :/
With 2 boys 2 & 5, I seem to be constantly spending time in & hanging out just outside the toilet. I am always cleaning it. & I hate it. I used to use the method flushable wipes, but have not been able to get them for the last 12 months. I did not know about any of their other products & would love to try them.
The shower! Have an old shower that is impossible to keep clean!,
Bathroom – especially the shower! The previous owner decided lots of tiny tiles on the shower floor was a good idea. It’s not!makes cleaning it a nightmare!
The bathroom, in particular the bath/shower. Old house, there’s 40 + years of dirty feet in that bath…ewww.
I hate cleaning the shower, there always seems to be water and soap scum I just can’t get off the glass >:-/
I’d like to see if the method glass cleaner can cut through it. The other thing I hate cleaning are the places in the laundry and bathroom where dust and towel fluff accumulate. Yuk!
The oven. Nothing natural works on mine!
I really don’t like cleaning the bathroom!
Scrubbing the shower base, tiles and shower screen. No matter how hard I scrub, I just can’t get it clean.
I hate all of the cleaning jobs! But I must say since switching the families soaps, shampoos etc to more natural and environmentally friendly products the bath seems to need more attention more frequently….guess the harsh chemical products we used to use were cleaning the bath while they stripped our skin and hair. I’d also be keen to try the flushable wipes mentioned in the above comments as I too have young boys and the toilet drives me crazy!
The oven – am always putting off cleaning it!
I hate cleaning the bathrooms and toilet. Have to reward myself with something nice when they are accomplished 🙂
The Oven! I feel like I can’t breathe for days after cleaning the oven 🙁
Windows… always get left to the last minute when I can hardly see through them anymore… A good cleaning product would definitely make it easier!
The bathroom. It’s time consuming and the cleanliness never lasts long.
I can handle most things but washing the cutlery is soooooo boring!!
I can not stand cleaning the shower. I can never seem to get all the soap scum off in the corners or around the door hinges.
I hate the shower glass, it never gets clean!
What an amazing product!!! I am just about to move in with my partner who has terrible allergies-these would be perfect for keeping our new home clean and fresh without the nasties!!!!
What an amazing product!!! I am just about to move in with my partner who has terrible allergies-these would be perfect for keeping our new home clean and fresh without the nasties!!!
I hate cleaning my gas stove top…so many little bits to try and get grease build up out of.
Congratulations!!! You’ve been selected the clean the TOILETS!!!!! (AGAIN!!!!)
We all use them… but I am the one who inevitably cleans them. So sick of drag stripes and soggy piles of undigested toilet paper thanks to kidlet. Note to self: Invent a TRUE self cleaning toilet 😉
The greasy, icky oven!
The glass showerscreen, windows and mirrors as I always seem to leave a streak or two no matter how hard I try
I hate cleaning windows. No matter what method I use, I always leave a film on them. The look better dirty than after I’ve attempted to clean them
I hate cleaning bath areas, basins & toilets.I need lots of motivation to keep these areas clean.
Oh the shower screens! Every time they’re clean, I PROMISE myself I’ll give them a quick wipe over daily, but that lasts….. about a day!
Nothing worst than trying to clean the shower screens. I can never get it clean enough.
Bathtub/shower is the most futile as it never looks clean enough, even after much cleaning!
I hate showers… And windows… Floors aren’t much better!
I used to get Method bathroom cleaner from Coles (or maybe it was Woolworths) but it disappeared from the shelves to my disappointment. Great product.
I hate cleaning bathrooms. It never lasts.
I absolutely hate cleaning the shower 🙁
Ovens & bathrooms I know they have to be done but I really have to psych myself up for it
The toliet floor, yuck
Cleaning the shower – I’ve tried everything to get my shower tiles sparkling clean and nothing works not even the hardest, back aching scrubbing and bleach!
I hate cleaning the oven.
I avoid cleaning windows and screens!
the shower! it takes so long!
Oh I hate just about doing all of it! hehe, but seriously the toilet would be my least favourite!!
Toilets, toilets toilets!
I love Method products and I reckon their packaging is really cool too. I’ve used some of their products for a while now, but haven’t delved into others. Perhaps it is time to give the others a crack.
The bathroom is my worst job. Some bitch malts hair like you wouldn’t believe (ok.. that’s me), and some jerk gets all little bits of shaving everywhere (yeah… Rosco), and then there is the shower….. uughhh
Really dislike cleaning the shower!
The bathroom, in particular the shower screen! So annoying!!
Definitely the shower! It takes sooo long to scrub all of the tiles and lines of grout.
THE DREADED SHOWER SOAP SCUM! Eughhhh that’s one job I hate doing especially since i have yet to find natural products that will remove it easily! Let’s hope METHOD can do the trick 🙂
My pet cleaning hate is our dingy 2x2m bathroom/toilet that is 60 yrs old and all 4 of us share. I need whatever help I can get!
I despise cleaning the oven. The chemicals are so toxic, not to mention ineffective, and I worry about the health of my baby and pets after I have finished filling the house with fumes!!!
The toilet. Nuff said right!
The toilet! It never stays clean for long!
Hate cleaning bathrooms!!!! help please! 🙂
I dislike cleaning. Although if I had the motivation and the right products, then it would make things easier.
I hate any cleaning that involves dust! Whatever I do just seems to move the dust around and not clean it – so frustrating. Great giveaway and review 🙂
I hate cleaning up after breakfast. Disgusting weetbix messes from my not yet two year old. Yuck.
I discovered method this summer at my sister in laws and was very impressed.
Well, I have been helping my wife with all the household duties as she isnt well. I must say I dont quite like the toilet duty!!! It seems as soon as I do it the kids go in and stay to have a picnic, ha ha then I have to clean it again!! yep, definitely the worst task in the house. Thanks for a chance and thanks to Method, Im thinking it wouldnt be as bad with method 🙂
The shower would have to be the worst!
I hate cleaning the bathroom 🙁 I would clean the toilet over the bathroom any day!
Oven……BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hence never really gets a makeover xox
The shower is definitely the worst in my books!!!
I hate cleaning the oven cause the only thing u can use is toxic cleaners with bad fumes that give me headaches for hrs later
Cleaning the windows,I detest!
I’d love to put method to the test.
Little fingers leave windows unclean,
and I like to use products that are green.
Lets put an end to all things streaky,
and truly enjoy the clean and squeaky!
I hate scrubbing my shower – all that soap scum and mould. yuck. I rather have a cup of tea and watch Ellen.
Cleaning my blinds…..grrrrr! Feels like when I finally get through them all, I have to start all over again
Cleaning the shower is definately a job I detest! Scrubbing the tiles, soap dish, grout and getting the shower screens streak free and soap free is hard work. I can’t use harsh chemicals (and who would want too) because we have asthma and allergies in the family so Method would be a wonderful rescue!
Like many, I hate doing the bathroom. My toddler loves to help with the spray bottle so I’m looking for an effective, more natural option.
I hate mopping, after it’s done it stays clean for all of 5min!!!
The shower. I just can’t handle cleaning the shower, I leave it too long and then it is a major job.
I hate cleaning windows and mirrors and actually use the excuse that I like seeing how small my baby’s hand prints are. They are too cute to clean.
toilets of course. but also the mirrors, showers, and definitely the oven!
The bathroom! It’s so old that even after all that scrubbing, it still looks dirty!
Touching/washing breakfast dishes with caked on cereal. How hard is it to rinse them pete?! (( I know you will never read this pete but it makes me feel better!)
Shower and of course the toilet – but it has to be done
Well…. Where do I start?! It all sucks right?! The toilet has to be my pet hate! Xx
Bathroom!!! Hate cleaning the bathroom.
Definitely the bathrooms. I put it off and then it’s even worse. 🙁
the bathroom – especially the shower!
I hate cleaning the shower – so much work.
I hate cleaning the toilet!! I mean who wants to have to look at and smell something where other people have done their business – not me.
I hate cleaning the bathroom. I also hate cleaning the oven. I despise mopping the floors. Actually, I hate cleaning, all cleaning. It never ends!
Method!! I really hate cleaning everything, please help 🙂 From what Ive read you make everything easy, I would love to see.
I loathe the floors, our new house has dark tiles and EVERYTHING shows up, wt????? With 3 boys (2 under 6) they are never clean no matter how often I do them…..
Toilets, makes me nauseous!!
the shower cubicle…the tiles seem to get dirty just looking at them…hate soap scum and its back breaking to scrub out..
I hate scrubbing the oven. I use a whole bottle of Easy Off BAM and 3 hours of my time a week. Grrr!
It is a very hard choice between cleaning the shower, the oven and the toilet my 4 boys use! They all get really filthy and are hard to clean.
Cleaning the oven!! Blurg….. I always seem to put it of and it makes it so much harder & dirtier to clean and the chemical really gets up my nose and I end up with migraines
The oven! bicarb and vinegar don’t work so, you know what? I simply don’t bother cleaning it. But one of these days, I’m going to have to!!
Definitely the oven!!!
Showers my husband is a painter and when he scrubs little flecks of paint stick to the tiles and they are so hard to clean off.
Has to be glass and windows so hard to get it perfect! I used Method in the UK, fab products, would love to get my hands on some again!
Yep bathroom – mainly the toilet. Erk!
The toilet… why is it so hard for boys to pee IN the toilet? It’s a big bowl, they get to practise 3-4 times a day… I just don’t get it!
What do I hate cleaning the most? Gee, it is a toss up…The shower, the oven, the loo, the bath, the kitchen, the sinks, the floor, the skirting boards, the windows??? Or all of the above? Ok, all of the above. What can I say, I am an equal opportunity person and I HATE them all equally! 🙂
I despise cleaning the BBQ! So greasy and smelly.
My bath and shower, the only way to clean it is to get in and get as wet as going to the beach
I HATE CLEANING FANS. AND IN DARWIN WE HAVE LOADS OF THEM…..ARGHHHHH
I really hate scrubbing the shower! More than happy to do the toilet, bath, vanity etc, but the shower I always leave for my husband to do!
The bathtub! it kills my back to get down and scrub the tub!
Definitely the toilet and toilet floor at the moment as we’re toilet training my son.. But other than that I hate mopping!! I put it off for as long as I can!
I really hate cleaning the oven, it is such a dirty job. The smell of the oven cleaner is terrible and trying to get to the back of the oven to clean is very annoying.
Definitely bathroom. Such a tough job for me!
I have streakophobia so find I leave my windows till birds start flying into them!
I love Method Bathroom cleaner. I used it for a couple of years when Woolies used to stock it. I was devastated when it disappeared from their shelves. I love the fresh minty fragrance after cleaning the bathroom.
The job I hate is dishes! Dirty dishes are the bane of my existence & they are always there lol. Especially because I cook most things from scratch, the sink piles up with dirty dishes numerous times a day.
I would have to say the biggest job that gives me grief would have to be the bathroom ! especially the tiles!
I HATE cleaning and vacuuming my car. Can’t stand it with all my heart! Signed up to the blog and liked the page on FB! 🙂
I hate doing the shower screens and cleaning the oven
I’m a subscriber using the email above and I liked on Facebook 🙂
My most hated job is cleaning the shower, ugh!
Windows! I can never get them streak free…and it frustrates me no end.
I hate cleaning the kid’s bathroom, Yuk!
I detest cleaning the oven. Last time I cleaned it the glass fell out of the door and landed on my foot.
I hate cleaning the bathroom!
I really hate cleaning all together but the worst is the oven and the showers
I can’t choose between oven and toilet!!
Of all the many household chores,
The one I really most abhor…
Without a doubt, hands down, for sure
Would have to be vacuuming the living room floor!
It makes the rest seem almost fun,
Scrubbing? Dusting? Those can be done!
But when the dreaded vacuuming has begun
My two poor doggies turn tail and run!
Sensitive rescue pups, the vacuum equals fear
They shake and cower if it comes near…
When it’s vacuum time, they disappear
And don’t return until the coast is clear!
Thanks for the chance, just LOVE Method – the products, the packaging, the message… everything!
I really dislike cleaning the floor after my little pup misses his puppy training pad and wets the floor.
I loath cleaning the toilet! I have 2 young children who can’t seem to find the toilet bowl and I am forever cleaning this small little room.
I hate cleaning the window tracks, and then you find a dead fly, yuk!!
I hate moving all the bottles, tubes and boxes off the bathroom bench to wipe it down.
My least favourite is the bathroom. I hate tiles so that combined with cleaning them does not a fun experience make!
Oh how l loathe scrubbing the grout in the shower! LOATHE and DETEST!
I hate the dishes its not so much doing them it that they just keep coming back over and over an over again.
With 3 boys in the house (none of whom can hit the target) I would have to say the loo!
Cleaning the main bathroom…especially the toilet….three boys…no more needs to be said only that “darts is not their game”
We have two toilets in our house, one for the girls and one for the boys… I bet you can guess which one I hate cleaning most.
I really hate cleaning the shower. I find the easiest way to clean it, is when you’re inside it and then all the chemicals get inhaled in the confined space. Yuck!
I can’t stand scrubbing shower walls and floors, my most hated chore.
Dishes! They are so tedious, I’d rather clean the toilet!
Hate mopping the floors with all my heart!
I HATE cleaning the toilet with 2 males in the house its a nightmare ;-(
