Kids’ Vitamins – what’s really in them?

March 15, 2018 · 1 Comment

Kids' Vitamins - what's really in them?

Kids’ Vitamins – what’s really in them?

You may have noticed an explosion of kids’ vitamin products on the market lately.

We all just want what’s best for our kids. We want them to be happy, healthy and full of energy. We want them to have all the nutrients their growing bodies and minds need.

Companies can see that we have that desire to make sure our kids are healthy and they make products that supply that need. But are they all they are cracked up to be?

Well, not necessarily! I have seen quite a few kids’ vitamin products recently that are very expensive and contain some really questionable ingredients.

The clever marketing spiel seem to be working and parents are buying these products thinking that they are doing the right thing by their children.

I’m not a medical professional, so I got my friend, who also happens to be my amazing nutritionist -Anita Rossiter to work with me on this article to give you a bit of basic information to help you make the best choices.

Do kids even need supplements?

Well, there is much debate around this topic. While most people can get all their nutrients from food, sometimes a little bit of extra help is needed.

Soil depletion, farming techniques, long-term storage, processing and a whole host of other factors mean that our food just isn’t as nutritious as it used to be.

Added to that, a lot of kids are not even eating enough good quality, nutrient-dense whole foods – for whatever reason. Processed foods are now very common in our kids’ diets too. Anita says that if kids are fussy, it’s worth seeking advice to ensure a nutritional deficiency isn’t underlying the fussiness.

There also seems to be an increase in issues like gut health which mean our bodies are not absorbing the nutrients as well as we could be.

I have always added in a few food-based supplements every now and again when the kids looked like they were getting sick or they were extra busy and getting a bit run down. I guess I look at it as ‘extra insurance’!

If you have any concerns about specific deficiencies or suspect a health problem, you need to get tested by a medical professional and supplemented correctly.

Naturopath Georgia Harding has some information about this here.

What to look out for?

When considering supplements, the first thing to do is get a full ingredient list. A lot of products will just display their ‘active ingredients’ but this is not a complete list. The rubbish often hides in the ‘inactive ingredients’.

Then you need to assess whether those ingredients are synthetic or natural. Food Matters have a great article on how you can tell the difference between natural vitamins and synthetic vitamins.

Check for sugars. They seem to be very prevalent in these products and will often be under another name like ‘tapioca syrup’. Some products are now claiming to be ‘sugar-free’ and substitute the sugar for things like xylitol and sorbitol. Unfortunately those components are highly processed and can cause digestive issues. In fact, I often see on the labels ‘this product may have a laxative effect’!

Check for artificial additives. Many use emulsifiers, flavourings, colourings and preservatives and even MSG. “Natural flavours” are not necessarily natural at all!

Get all the facts, do your research and then make a decision. Don’t be swayed by marketing claims!

Anita also says that many supplements are making a health situation worse as they can contain ingredients that are known to worsen gut health such as the additives, emulsifiers and sugars.

What to use?

The first thing to do is to try to improve your child’s diet by increasing nutrient-dense, good quality foods including fruit and vegetables. Anita says ‘you can’t supplement your way out of a bad diet!’

If you think your kids have a specific health issue, consult a medical professional and get some thorough testing. I find integrative doctors, nutritionists or naturopaths are more likely to be better informed about up to date nutrition information and are able to recommend good quality supplements.

If you just want to your kids to take a broad spectrum multi vitamin and mineral as a back-up, look for those that are just whole food (preferably certified organic) without sugar, synthetics and artificial additives.

We like Nutra Organics and Superfoods for Kidz.  Anita also has her recommended supplements on her website here.

Do your kids take vitamins? What are your experiences?

A healthy Easter basket for kids

Easter is here yet again and I thought I would share with you some healthy, ethical and natural ideas for the kids’ Easter baskets.

I know Easter can be one of those occasions that can easily become excessive and overly commercialised. Dealing with family members and outside influences that don’t support your healthy choices can be very stressful. Check out my hints on how to navigate this with humour and grace.

What family traditions do you have for Easter? What are you putting into baskets? Let us know in the comments.

Love List ~ Feb 18

February 27, 2018 · 2 Comments

Love List ~ Feb 18

A new year is upon us and I have been busting to tell you all about some amazing new products that have been released! So many more innovative people making awesome things that are good for us and the planet.

♥ Hello Sunshine Natural Sunscreen

The amazing Alisa and Danni from 123 Nourish Me have released a cracking natural sunscreen and people are going crazy for it!! It’s got an SPF rating of 30 and also comes in a small wind-up stick which is perfect for the handbag, nappy bag or for the kids to take to school.

There are no nasty toxins here! Hello Sunshine is made with organic, quality ingredients that will not harm our families or our oceans and reefs.

It has a very subtle vanilla scent, goes on smoothly and sinks in without leaving a greasy white residue. I tested it out on my family and everyone is a fan, particularly the fair skinned ones!

Keep an eye on my Facebook and Instagram, where I will share a video of using it on the skin.

Get it here.   PS get 10% off with the code: HELLOTEN

♥ Cheeki Leakproof Stainless Steel Lunchbox

This is what mums everywhere have been waiting for and wanting. A stainless steel lunchbox that is affordable and leak proof!!

This new one from Cheeki is double layered and has a silicone seal under the lid (which doesn’t touch your food) – genius. There are three variations: double stacked, regular and large so you can find a size that suits you.

Get them here.

♥ Fur Baby Pet Support Essence

Alisha from Naughty Naturopath Mum has just released her brand new blend and it’s all about supporting our furry friends.

If you are a long time reader, you will know we have a dastardly dachshund called Wilbur. Dachshunds tend towards being anxious, having loud barks and being notoriously difficult to train. We have had a lot of trouble over the years with continual barking – in his mind, he is protecting the family against perceived threats. That means he’s a great guard dog but even falling leaves can make him go crazy!

I have been testing the Fur Baby Pet Support essences for just over a week now and we are pleasantly surprised! We have been popping them in his water bowl daily and he was calmer over all.  On several occasions when he got himself into a barking loop, we administered directly into his mouth (that was fun!!!!) Within five minutes he had settled right down and stopped barking. Woohoo! I am calling that a win.

If you want to try them out, they can also be used for settling traumatised and rescue pets, nerves and fear, travel, vet visits, loneliness, separation and any antisocial behaviours! Find them here.

♥ Eco by Sonya Face Compost Mask

Another gorgeous product from Eco Tan founder, Sonya Driver. This is a lush organic seven minute face mask made with superfoods and antioxidants.

It’s designed to cleanse, soothe, brighten and draw out impurities. I know my skin needs a little TLC right now, so this is just the ticket.

Get it here.

♥ WayCap Stainless Steel Coffee Pods

Australians use and throw away over a billion single-use coffee capsules every year!! Far be it for me to come between anyone and their coffee but man, that’s a lot of waste.

Well the solution is here – WayCap make reusable, stainless steel capsules for your coffee machine. They come with 4 interchangeable steel filters, for extra fine to coarse grinds, and are compatible with certain Nespresso machines.

Get them here.

♥ Cedar and Stone Oils

I am a sucker for essential oils and I am always keen to try out new brands and blends. All of these smell amazing but Namaste is my favourite. Maybe I am really just a hippy at heart because I tend to adore anything that has patchouli in it!! 😉

Cedar and Stone are a small Aussie owned business in Kingscliff in Northern NSW. They have such a funky vibe going on!!

Get them here.

♥ Wolf Stainless Steel Drink Bottle

I know many of you resonate with wolf energy and love wolves! This is a perfect way to keep that energy close to you. The same print is also available in a lunch bag and tote bag. Isn’t he magnificent?

How to wash curly hair, naturally!

February 19, 2018 · 20 Comments

How to wash curly hair, naturally!

How to wash curly hair, naturally!

I have had curly hair all my life and only last year did I find out how to wash and care for it properly. All those wasted years when I could have had really good hair!

Anyway, I am now spreading the word to all my fellow curlies. It’s all about ‘squish to condish and plopping!’

I follow the technique taught to me by my curl-specialist hairdresser. Yes, it’s a thing! Find someone trained in cutting and caring for curls – it makes the world of difference.  I then modified this technique over time to a more basic version for someone who works at home and doesn’t need to look fancy every day.

Us curly-headed people need to use the right products and the right method to keep our curls hydrated, defined and fizz free. There is a real art to it.

The first time I had my hair cut and washed this way I could not believe how good it looked!

What products to use:

If you have curly hair, it’s recommended to avoid sulphates, silicones, parabens and synthetic fragrance. Actually, I would encourage everyone to avoid those ingredients, not just curlies!

There are some great curly-specific products on the market but I struggled to find ones that were affordable and not full of nasty chemicals. Call me crazy, but I don’t want to spend $50 on a shampoo that’s bad for my health and the planet!

My curly genes are strong and I also have two curly-haired kids (that’s my gorgeous girl in the photo), so I need to buy something safe for all of us to use that isn’t going to break the budget.

I recently tried out some of  ecostore’s newly formulated shampoo and a conditioner for dry, damaged and coloured hair and was pleasantly surprised to find it worked a treat on our curly hair even thought it’s not specifically designed for curly hair!

Here’s what I like…

♥ Free of the sulphates, silicones, parabens and synthetic fragrance that are no-no for curls

♥ Is affordable (under $11 and sometimes on sale for even less)

♥ Is naturally derived (plant and mineral based)

♥ Has no nasty chemicals

♥ Uses renewable sugar-cane plastic packaging that can be recycled

♥ Has a concentrated formula so you only need to use a tiny bit

♥ Is not tested on animals

♥ Is free from genetically engineered products

♥ Has sustainable and ethical company practices

♥ Is easy to find (most Woolworths stores have it!)

Ecostore is a brand I have always used and trusted. Founded in New Zealand by Malcolm and Melanie Rands, they are experts in natural, low-toxin products.  They have complete transparency and list every ingredient in every product on the labels and on the website.

So as well as having good hair, you can do good every day for your health, your family and for the environment.

How to wash curly hair:

♥  First off, never brush your hair. Throw that brush away. I wish someone had told me that when I was a kid and used to brush my hair one hundred times and wondered why I always looked like a frizzy mess!

♥ Shampoo by gently massaging the scalp with fingertips and then scrunching the shampoo through the hair from the bottom up. Don’t rub the hair and mess up the curls. Rinse well, gently.

♥ Condition by emulsifying some conditioner with water in your hands and then applying to hair using a combing type action, in sections. Gently squeeze the conditioner into small sections of your hair at a time, while adding little trickles of water. Add more conditioner as you go. After it feels slippery all over (like cooked noodles), squish-scrunch your hair from the bottom up in small handfuls. This is called ‘squish to condish’ and should sound like you are walking in wet shoes.

♥ Rinse out gently- don’t have the shower on full spray, just trickling. Leave some of the conditioner still in your hair (I know this was freaking me out but I got used to it!)

♥ While your hair is still soaking wet, add some leave-in conditioner that you have emulsified in your hands. Use the same scrunch-squishing method to apply.

♥ Without rinsing or touching the hair,  jump out of the shower and flip your hair upside down over a micro-fibre hair turban and then tie it up (this is called ‘plopping’ –  it’s the technical term, I am not making that up!)

♥ After leaving it in the turban for about half an hour, take it out and gently adjust the hair so it’s sitting how you want it and then let it air-dry. It’s really important you don’t touch your hair while it’s drying. The more you fiddle with it, the more frizz you will get.

♥ When it’s completely dry, smooth out any fly-aways with more emulsified leave-in conditioner ( I only bother if I am going out in public!)

♥  I am very low-maintenance so this is enough for me. But if you want to get fancy, you can add some hair gel or styling products after the leave-in conditioner as well. And you can also use a hair dryer on a diffuser on a very low setting to dry it quicker.

So, if you have curly hair and have not discovered the right products and the right method, give it a go!

Have a play around, ‘squish to condish’ and see what works best for your hair.  Try out the ecostore shampoo and conditioner and let me know what you think.

If your curls are dry and in bad condition, it can take a while to nurture them back to good health, so keep persevering. Be gentle with those curls and embrace them.

Let me know how you go and if you have any questions, leave me a comment below!

How to cleanse your crystals

February 14, 2018 · 2 Comments

How to cleanse your crystals

Did you know that crystals need to be ‘cleansed’ regularly in order to get the most benefit from them?

Now when I say cleanse, don’t mean cleaning physically with soap and water, I mean cleansing on an energetic level.

Why would you cleanse crystals?

Crystals work with energy. They pick up and absorb the energy around them, both positive and negative.

In order to keep the crystals energised and working in the best way possible for you, they should be cleansed.

You should always cleanse any new crystals you get to clear away any old or negative energy and start afresh.

Cleanse your crystals regularly, depending on how often you use them and how you use them. If you use them for healing or meditation or guidance, cleanse before and after.

Use your intuition to choose a cleansing method – whatever feels right for you and the crystal you want to cleanse.

How do you cleanse crystals?

♥ Moonlight

Simply leave your crystals overnight outside under the moonlight, preferably a full moon. This is the safest method and suitable for all crystals and crystal jewellery.

♥ Sunlight

Place your crystals outside in the sun. Leave from dawn until dusk or just a few hours at noon.  Some crystals may fade over time with this method.

♥ Running Water

Hold your crystals in your hand (or in a porous bag) under running water. Fresh or sea water is best, but tap water is also okay if it’s all you have. Porous crystals should not be cleansed with water in case they get damaged.

♥ Salt

You can cleanse your crystals in salt water (fresh seawater or a water and sea salt solution) for a few hours. Alternatively, pop your crystals in a bowl of plain salt overnight. Make sure you use a glass or ceramic bowl, not metal. This method is not recommended for crystals that are porous or have metal or water.

♥ Visualisation

You can simply visualise all negative energy flowing out from the crystal and then visualising the crystal filling with clean and clear light.

♥ Other crystals

Some crystals are good at cleansing other crystals. Choose amethyst, clear quartz, carnelian or selenite crystals that have been cleansed and are bigger than the crystal you want cleansed. Crystal geodes or clusters are great for this.

♥ Earth cleansing

Bury your crystals in the earth (either outside or in a pot plant). Leave for two or three days and then uncover. Make sure you mark where you buried them!

♥ Smudge

You can smudge crystals using sage or a smudge stick. Hold it while you smudge around all sides of the crystal. Find out how to smudge here.

You can also use incense, but make sure it’s a natural one, not one made with nasty toxins!

♥ Sound

Sound has a lovely vibration which can be used to cleanse crystals. Use a singing bowl, gong, bells, cymbals, drums, a tuning fork or just your voice. Get the crystals as close as you can to the sound or pass through the sound wave too.

What do you use to cleanse your crystals? Let us know!

Introducing… Bosisto’s Aromatherapy Mists

February 8, 2018 · 147 Comments

Introducing… Bosisto’s Aromatherapy Mists

I use aromatherapy sprays every day! I think I might be a bit addicted.

It’s a great way to get the benefit of essential oils in an easy, convenient way.

The lovely people at Bosisto’s have sent me their new Aromatherapy range of mists to try out. They have recently released three aromatherapy room mists – Sleep, Energy and Breathe.

You might already be familiar with the Bosisto’s brand because their gorgeous eucalyptus oil with the parrot logo has been an Aussie institution since 1852! In fact, they are the oldest heritage brand that is still 100% Aussie owned and they know a thing or two about essential oils after being in the business so long.

♥ Sleep

The Sleep Aroma Mist is a relaxing fusion of lavender and chamomile essential oils. Use it in your bedroom or on your pillow to help you get to unwind and get a better sleep at night.

This one would also be great to calm down the kids if they are getting a little bit feral. Spray some around and change up the mood!

♥ Energy

Energy is a refreshing blend of rosemary, lemon and peppermint oils. Designed to be invigorating and energising, you can use this blend first thing in the morning to get going or if you are having a mid-afternoon slump!

It would also be brilliant to spray around when the kids are doing their homework and need to focus.

♥ Breathe

The Breathe Aroma Mist is great if you are feeling a bit under the weather. It has a zingy blend of eucalyptus, rosemary and wintergreen to clear the head.

This one also works well as a spray for the sick room to freshen things up.

How do you use them?

So simple! Just pump 3-5 sprays into a room and use as often as needed.

As well as using them around your house, try them out in the car, class room, office or hotel rooms when travelling. You can also just use the aroma mists as an air-freshener in the smallest room of the house (aka the loo!)

While essential oils are all natural, they still need to be used with caution.

Spray into the room around you rather than towards you. As some essential oils are not suitable for pets, be mindful when spraying around your furry and feathered family.

As well as the therapeutic benefits of aroma mists and their nice smell, I always find that spraying a room with oils changes the energy too. Without going to woo woo on you, they are a great way to cleanse any negative energy and change up the vibe.

Whats in them?

Bosisto’s only use 100% pure essential oils, water and ethanol in their aroma mists. There are no nasties like parabens, pthalates or synthetic fragrances.

The verdict?

I think they are great! Not only are they very affordable, you can get them at most Woolworths, so they are easy to grab in your weekly shop.

My family are loving them too – I could not find the Sleep mist anywhere when I wanted to take a photo. Turns out my daughter had ‘borrowed’ it to help her sleep and make her room smell nice!

Bosisto’s aromatherapy mists are Aussie owned and made and never tested on animals. The spray bottles are also recyclable (or you could re-use them too).

I am a long time essential oils lover and it’s great to see natural aromatherapy products coming into mainstream usage. You don’t need to spend a fortune to experience the benefits of pure aromatherapy oils.

Bosisito’s have already done the blending for you, so you just need to spray and enjoy!

Where do you get them?

Most Woolworths stores stock the aromatherapy mists but Bosisto’s have their own online store where you can get them directly . If you shop at their online store, you can get 25% off until the end of February too!

Giveaway:

This giveaway has now closed. The lucky winners are: Tish, Lisa, Louise, Deborah and Debbie.

The lovely people at Bosistos are giving away five packs of all three mists to five of you!

How to enter:

Head to the Bosisto’s website and check out the sprays.

Leave a comment here and let me know which one you are going to use first and what for.

Terms and conditions:

This giveaway ends 16th February at midnite (AEST). The winners will be chosen using a random number generator from those meeting the entry requirements and notified by email. Sorry, only those with an Australian address are eligible to enter. Good luck!

Cheese and Spinach Rice Cakes

January 29, 2018 · 4 Comments

You know when you find something yummy and cook it so many times that everybody ends up hating it?

Yeah, that.

These rice cakes were on high rotation in my kitchen about five years ago until there was a protest! But they have made a reappearance and everyone is enjoying them again. I just have to pace myself now and not make them too often!

They are delicious hot or cold and make a very budget-friendly dinner with some salad or are great for lunch boxes too.

Whip them up when you have some leftover rice so it doesn’t go to waste. You can also throw in any leftover cooked vegetables or meat.

Cheese and Spinach Rice Cakes

Vital Stats: gluten free, nut free, vegetarian

This is what you need:

4 cups cooked brown rice

2 green shallots, finely chopped

2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped

1 cup finely shredded baby spinach

100g tasty cheese, grated

50g parmesan cheese, grated

2 eggs

1/2 cup cream

1 small garlic clove, crushed

Herbamare (or salt) and pepper to taste

This is how you do it:

Preheat your oven to 180ºC and line a 12 cup muffin tray with some non-toxic muffin papers.

Whisk together the eggs and cream in a large bowl.

Add all the other ingredients and mix well.

Scoop into the muffin papers and press down slightly.

Sprinkle with more cheese if you like.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until firm and golden brown.

TIPS:

I have used the If You Care baking paper and cups for years now – nothing ever sticks and they are compostable and non-toxic.

Add whatever you like to the basic egg, rice and cream mixture. Some things that are also tasty in these rice cakes are: feta, sun-dried tomatoes, bacon, zucchini, char-grilled capsicum, chives, mushrooms and salami.

I always soak rice before I cook it, just to make it easier to digest and kinder on our tummies.

Use pure cream that doesn’t have any artificial fillers or thickeners.

My Chicken and Spinach Fritters are also brilliant cold in lunch boxes.

If you make my Cheese and Spinach Rice Cakes, let me know what the family thinks and upload a photo to my socials.

How to make your own nit spray to prevent head lice

January 18, 2018 · 10 Comments

How to make your own nit spray to prevent head lice

I have been meaning to share with you our simple nit prevention spray for so long. I figured that back to school would be a perfect time to get it up on the website so it can be useful to you!

Luckily we have only had lice a few times over the years, but I know friends that have recurring issues trying to control the nits.

How to get rid of the lice once you have them is a whole other post I will do for you another day. Today, this is our preventative Nit Spray that we use to avoid them attaching onto the hair. I have to say it works pretty well because once we started using it, we didn’t get any more nits.

Spray a bit of the Nit Spray on to the hair every morning and then if your kids have long hair, wear it up in a bun or plait so the hair is contained.

There are loads of variations on this, but I choose these two essential oils as my preference because they are safe for kids of all ages.

You can make the Nit Spray in a larger spray bottle, just increase the measurements to suit. We repurpose old spray bottles from around the house. But do label it clearly and keep out of reach of small kids, so nobody accidentally ingests it!

NNAM Nit Spray

125ml water

40ml or around 2 tablespoons of natural conditioner

10 drops tea tree oil

10 drops lavender oil

Pop everything into your spray bottle and shake vigourously. Spray onto the hair and comb through.

I give it a shake every time before using as well. You can use it on wet or dry hair and it doesn’t need to be washed first.

Depending on what conditioner you use, you might need to play around with quantities to get the right consistency.

Hot tips: you don’t need to buy expensive oils for this – Eco. Aroma are a great, affordable Aussie brand and are 100% pure. I always use natural conditioner for the spray because it is is left in the hair and you don’t want any nasty toxins on the kids.

So know you know how to make your own nit spray to prevent head lice!! Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Easy Muesli Bars

January 12, 2018 · 2 Comments

This recipe is ridiculously easy to make. Just throw everything in a bowl, mix and bake!

As much as I love cooking, keeping up a constant supply of home-made real food for the family can be quite time-consuming.

So the easier the recipe, the more chance it is that it will be on high rotation in our house. I always make double batches and freeze too.

You can even get the kids making this one it’s so simple and fuss-free.

Of course you get the added benefits of it being much cheaper than buying muesli bars, there is zero packaging and you know exactly what’s in your food.

Give them a go and let me know what you think.

Easy Muesli Bars

Vital Stats: Wheat free, dairy free, nut free, vegetarian

This is what you need:

3 cups muesli

1/2 cup sultanas

2 bananas

1 egg

1 tablespoon coconut oil

This is how you do it:

Preheat the oven to 180ºc. Line a slice tin with non-toxic baking paper.

Mash the banana and whisk in the egg and coconut oil. Add the muesli and mix well.

Smooth into your slice tin with a spatula or the back of a wet spoon.

Bake for 20 minutes or until nice and firm.

Let cool before you slice with a bread knife.

Hot tips:

We make up our own muesli but any good quality muesli is okay. Ideally, try to get one that’s organic and without sulphur dioxide in the dried fruit.

If you want to make these for lunchboxes, just make sure your muesli has no nuts.  Use seeds, coconut and fruit instead.

I know many of you are huge fans of natural skincare brand, Weleda.

To be honest, I knew about Weleda but hadn’t really tried any of the products apart from a small sample of Skin Food I got from an event and the perfumes (lush by the way). I guess it’s because I try to choose Aussie brands first where possible.

However when Weleda asked me to try some of their products, I was pretty keen to see what all the fuss was about. Delving deeper and learning more about the company and using the products for a few months…. well yes, I can understand the addiction! The products are really, really lovely and they work.

I guess when you have been in the business since 1921, you know a thing or two about making a good quality natural product!

About Weleda

One thing I didn’t know was that Weleda’s founder is humanitarian and philosopher, Dr Rudolf Steiner (yep, the same guy as the Steiner schools!)

Based on anthroposophy which views the human body, mind and spirit holistically, Weleda uses natural ingredients that are targeted to support to your body’s own natural processes, encouraging internal balance and enhancing your body’s ability to nurture and heal.

Weleda ticks a lot of boxes for me –  all natural ingredients, fair trade, no animal testing, recyclable packaging, sustainable practices.  More than 82% of the plant-based raw materials come from certified organic or biodynamic farming, or from a controlled wild collection so the quality really is there.

Weleda is a large, international company but still manages to retain a personal touch with great customer service and a commitment to doing the right thing, which makes them a leader in the field. I think more companies could be inspired by their ethical, social and environmental initiatives.

One advantage of being an international company and having a huge popularity in the market place is that they can keep the products affordable for us.

A Natural First Aid Kit

One thing that really appealed to me in the range was their first aid products. Many of you want to know what to replace the old-fashioned, often-toxic first aid remedies with.

Weleda has made it super simple and have us covered with basic first aid remedies. Utilising the power of herbs, plants, essential oils and homeopathy, they have some brilliant products that will soothe and heal.

Unless you are a professional, working out what remedies you need for what ailment and then calculating doses and applications can be really overwhelming. Weleda uses herbs and particularly essential oils in concentrations that are safe for everyone in the family, while still being effective.

These are some great Weleda products to have in your first aid kit.

♥ Arnica Cream

Arnica works brilliantly on bumps, bruises, strains and sprains. With beautiful anti-inflammatory essential oils, this cream has a high concentration of arnica to work fast.

♥ Bites and Burns Cooling Gel

This gel is useful for pain relief and healing of minor burns, sunburn, insect and tick bites, stings and rashes.  Featuring cooling aloe vera and echinacea, you can also use this on eczema.

♥ Hypercal Healing Cream

This cream uses the herbs hypericum and calendula for wounds, cuts and abrasions. After washing, apply the cream and dressing if needed. It will provide pain relief, relieve inflammation and help the wound heal fast.

♥ Rash Relief Cream

The Rash Relief cream has 32 active ingredients to treat skin rashes. It will soothe, protect and heal delicate skin, including babies’ nappy rash and fungal infections.

♥ Skin Food

Weleda’s famous Skin Food is also great for the first aid kit. It is deeply moisturising and soothing for any rough, dry skin on the body. Try it on chapped lips, dry skin or cracked heels.
