Magic Reindeer Food – the NNAM way!
Magic Reindeer Food is one Christmas tradition I really miss!
We used to make up lots of it every year and hand it out to all the kids we knew. My kids absolutely adored sprinkling it out on Christmas Eve. So much fun. Why do they have to grow up!!??
If you are not familiar with Magic Reindeer Food, then let me tell you about it. You can make up a very special magic mix of reindeer food that you sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve that guides the reindeers to your house.
You can use a free printable (loads on Pinterest to choose from!) or hand-write the poem yourself.
Sprinkle on the lawn at night. The moon will make it sparkle bright. Santa’s reindeer fly and roam. This will guide them to your home.
So cute!
The traditional way to do it is to use oats and glitter or Christmas confetti. Unfortunately glitter and plastic confetti are not biodegradable and can be dangerous to pets and wildlife. I know some people use jelly crystals, but that is one food product I don’t particularly like due to all the sugar and additives. Even though the kids won’t actually eat it, I just don’t like buying it!
I recently came across a cool way to make ‘Nature’s Glitter’ from the fabulous website, Mother Natured. This is such an eco-friendly and cool way to make Magic Reindeer Food.
Reindeer Food – the NNAM way!
So, this is what you need:
A handful of rolled oats
A handful of Nature’s Glitter
Paper Bags or Glass Jars
Magic Reindeer Food Printables (optional)
So, this is what you do:
Make up your Nature’s Glitter. Add a handful of glitter to a handful of oats. Place in the paper bag or glass jar. Fold down and staple and add the printable to the top (or handwrite it yourself). Don’t forget to recycle the paper bag! If using a jar, just attach the printable with some ribbon.
Sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve and wait for the reindeer!
*HOT TIP* Don’t be skimpy on how much you make – the kids love sprinkling!
Brilliant idea. Thank you! We had resorted to carrots and apples but this sounds much more fun.
the carrots and apples are fun too! 😉
OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE THIS… so super cute. We usually do carrots and I’m sure the kids may still want to leave one, but they are going to LOVE this, I am so excited to share it with them.
Thank you so much Sonia for sharing 🙂 xo
