I don’t like making New Year’s resolutions.
I like making intentions.
A resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something. An intention is a course of action one intends to follow.
Maybe the same? But for me, the two have very different connotations.
This New Year, I am taking an hour just before midnight to set my intentions with a little bit of ritual involved.
I have been thinking on it and gathering ideas. I hope they inspire you.
♥ Take a sole bath. This year, we have a new moon coinciding with the new year!
Taking a bath in a new moon has a stronger detoxifying effect. Clean your bath and fill with body temperature water. Add one kilo of Himalayan salt to your bath and soak for at least 30 minutes. You can add essential oils if you wish, but don’t add anything else. Let your body air dry afterwards.
♥ Write. Intentions become more powerful when written.
Get a nice diary or stationery and write down what you want to manifest for the New Year. Your dreams, hopes and desires. Always write in a positive way, not a list of things you want to stop doing! You might want to pick one word that sums up what you want to manifest. The word that keeps coming up for me is VIBRANT!
Some people like to burn their piece of paper or you might like to put it on post it notes where you can see it. Whatever you feel like you need to do.
♥ Aroma. Use aromatherapy oils while setting your intentions and throughout the year to help you stay on the path.
Cardamom, cypress, ginger, jasmine, nutmeg, orange and tangerine are all oils that can help you “release blockages, support the adoption and fulfillment of intentions and facilitate transition.” Find out more here.
♥ Crystals. You may want to hold crystals while you set intentions or put them in a grid.
Hematite is a grounding stone that can help you focus on what it is you want. Choosing crystals based on your intentions can also make them more powerful. For example, rose quartz is associate with love, so use it if your intention is based around love. Harmony Rose Crystals has a list of all the crystals and their meanings.
♥ Meditate. Use meditation to not only help you work out your intentions, but also as a ritual when you set them.
I love using Australian Bushflower Essences, Meditation Essence when I meditate. It helps me ‘drop in’ to the zone a lot quicker. If you are not into meditating, even just sitting in a quiet spot with some candles and oils and thinking is helpful.
♥ Be Grateful. Be thankful of your life and the experiences and learning you have had so far.
I think hating yourself and your “bad” habits is not healthy. Be kind and gentle with yourself. Have the attitude of gratitude, combined with an open mind to new possibilities, change and growth.
Some other things I am intending to do in the first week of January are:
♥ Vision Board. I am going to do a personal one and also with my loved ones, we are going to do a family board too. Find out more about vision boards here.
♥ Decluttering. Cleaning and clearing out old stuff sends a clear message to the universe that you are releasing the old and are ready for the new! It’s incredibly powerful!
I would love to hear what you are manifesting for the New Year and how you are doing it!
