Love List July 16

Love List July 16

My monthly love list is back!

I know I haven’t been writing as much as usual. It’s all part of the healing process, slowing down and spending more time with my family. I have had loads of ideas though, so once I am feeling more on top of this adrenal fatigue that keeps hanging around, I will be writing a little more regularly. I hope you have all been keeping warm and well.
Here is what I have been loving this month.

whole food from the ground up

♥ Wholefood from the Ground Up

I was lucky enough to meet the whole food goddess herself, Jude Blereau recently. Her new book is an absolute cracker with lots of wisdom around eating whole food and of course some amazing recipes. The olive oil, lemon and rosemary cake is utterly divine.

Get it here.

broth2

♥ Bone Broth

The awesome people at Nutra Organics just keep bringing out really good things! Their latest is beef broth powders. Now you all know I love my broth but I tend to stick with chicken as beef is a bit smelly to cook. Well, you don’t have to worry with these dehydrated versions!

Just add to some hot water to make a cup of broth or use to sprinkle in your cooking. It will boost the nutrition and give you a fabulous flavour without all the nasties in stock cube powders. The broth is made from certified organic, grass fed bones and gently dried to preserve nutrients.

Get them here.

Earthing sheet

♥ Earthing Sheet

So a few months ago, my hubby read the Earthing book (pictured) and promptly went and ordered an earthing sheet kit from the lovely Laura at Earthing Oz. We have previously ordered some radiation protection devices from her and love them.

I wasn’t all that keen on spending money on something I wasn’t too sure about it but he was adamant it would improve my health! Well okay hubby you were right. I love my earthing sheet!

It feels exactly like a normal fitted sheet except this one has earthing properties. You plug it into the wall, switched off to connect to the earth. I haven’t told you much about it yet because I wanted to trial it for a while. I have been sleeping a lot more deeply and restfully and I really noticed when I went away for a week and didn’t take my sheet (lesson learned) that there was a noticeable difference.

One of my readers also got herself a set and she reported back good results also! I think earthing in any form is so beneficial. I am going to write more about this on the website soon, so keep an eye out.

If you want to check out the sheets, go here.

Aroma Bloom diffuser

♥ Aromatherapy Oil Diffuser

So spoilt! I won this amazing Lively Living diffuser on Facebook the other week and I am officially in love. I do have five diffusers of various types already (what can I say, I am an addict that likes oils in every room!) However, I must say this surpasses them all in terms of quality and appearance. My absolute favourite.

It’s an ultrasonic cold diffuser. The ultrasonic technology utilises high frequency vibrations to atomize the liquid, meaning there is no need for heat source. Each micro sized droplet is coated with a fine layer of the essential oil. This cool mist becomes a vapour which spreads evenly throughout the room, and is easily inhaled and absorbed.
Find out more here.

Pathfinder Wolves

♥ Pathfinder Wolves Pendants

So beautiful! These gorgeous pendants are the soulful creation of Melbourne-based sisters LJ & Anna from Love is Your Compass. They are a range of hand carved wolf talismans, each with a different name and purpose, infused with reiki and love.

“We wanted to create wearable sacred tools which would energetically support the wearer to explore their inner world.”

Love List ~ March 2016

March 31, 2016 · 6 Comments

Well it has been a little while since I have done a love list!

In between moving to Brisbane and settling my kids in at new schools and uni and working on my charity project and updating the website (do you like the new design and logo??), it’s all been a little crazy around here at NNAM.

Here are some things that I have been loving the last few months….

4 My Earth Bamboo Bags

♥ 4 My Earth Bamboo Bags

I am in love with these new bamboo bags! They are so soft and light weight and perfect for replacing plastic bags when buying produce. I have also been using them damp to keep veggies nice and fresh in the crisper. Such a great way to reduce your plastic usage. Get them here.

♥ Erica Brooke Skin Care

Made by a Brisbane natural new age mum, this range is equal to any of the big name natural skin care brands on the market. Erica’s deodorant is already one of my all time favourite products and I think I am also going to add the Honey Cream Cleanser to that list as well. It’s so incredibly beautiful to use and of course, free of nasty toxins and weird stuff! Check it out here.

wcb

♥ The Wholesome Cook by Martyna Angell

I was lucky enough to meet Martyna a few weeks ago at a cooking demo and I grabbed a copy of her cookbook while I was there. I really love Martyna’s food philosophy (probably because it is so similar to my own) of eating whole foods for your own bio-individuality. So many delicious whole food recipes to inspire. Check it out here.

Small Steps to Fermenting

♥ Small Steps to Fermenting

I am about to embark on some fermenting. I find it to be all quite overwhelming and I am worried I am going to get it wrong and make us all sick! Luckily the gorgeous Lisa Corduff (guru from Small Steps to Wholefoods) has teamed up with her husband to break it all down step by step in their online course, Small Steps to Fermenting. Check it out here.

Crystal-Singingbowls_TheRawFoodStore_grande

♥ Crystal Singing Bowls

I was lucky enough to attend a crystal singing bowl healing workshop last month. I felt incredibly relaxed and in balance afterwards. It was a very magical, spiritual experience. You can check out crystal singing bowls at some new age stores or look for a healing session near you!

What have you discovered lately that you love??

Love List – May15

May 27, 2015 · 60 Comments

Well, that was May! Here is my love list for the month – things I have been using, trying, loving and crushing on.

A Bit Hippy Giveaway

♥ A Bit Hippy

Why, yes I am! I have been trialling this lovely natural skincare range this month and I am now a firm fan. My favourite products include the shampoo and conditioner (they make my hair feel sooo lovely). The deodorant works really well and has a very mild scent so suitable for either gender. The anti-ageing cream is gorgeous and I would use it again – for $30 it’s great value. My daughter loved the BB cream – as well as giving a light coverage, it also helps with acne!

They have a lovely baby range which makes a very cute gift. Also in the range is sunscreen, tanning cream, all sorts of products for the face, body wash and a body bar too. What I love is that it’s a really family friendly, affordable, natural range, made in Australia. The packaging and fun concept is also really quirky and appeals to me too! You can find it at some health food stores or pharmacies. Go here to find stockists near you or just buy straight from them online. Update: Free Shipping for all of June 2015.

A bit hippy

GIVEAWAY: Yep the lovely hippies are giving away a hamper pack of their goodies to one of you to test it out as well. You will get a shampoo, conditioner, facewash and deodorant plus a heap of little samples added in as well. All you have to do is go and like the A Bit Hippy facebook page and leave us a message on this article letting us know how you are ‘a little bit hippy’! Read the terms at the bottom of this post too please!

The lucky winner was Rebecca F!!

Anita Rossiter

♥ Anita Rossiter.

Anita is the awesome nutritionist at Eat and Three Veg and she lives near me now, so we get together and talk food and health! When Anita put up this post about Post Natal Depression and Nutrition, I was blown away. This info needs to be shared with anyone with PND or anyone about to have a baby. It’s time we support mums and nourish them after birth.

The Happy Cookbook by Lola Berry

♥ The Happy Cookbook

Speaking of hippies, the biggest hippy nutritionist in Australia has to be Lola Berry. Her new cook book is amazing – all the recipes are gluten free and sugar free and based on real, whole food. She’s up on the latest nutrition so you won’t find any low fat in here! I love that it’s family friendly and simple too. A favourite for the collection.

Get it online ($15 off!) or wherever you normally buy good books!

♥ Nature Crown.

I am totally loving this project over at Mama Miss. It’s a gorgeous crown made from sticks! I think it’s so important to get kids not only being creative, but getting in touch with nature. Of course, non-plastic, eco-friendly, economical things to play with always get me excited too. This one is a winner.

Find all the details here.

Gratitude-Journal-flowers-400x400

♥ Happi Empire Gratitude Journal

I’ve actually had this for some time, but it’s been pulled out again and lovingly filled in. I like making my gratitude practice a lovely ritual – some quiet time, candles and oils and writing in a pretty book. There’s something more powerful about it this way. I adore Fran’s work – she is a graphic designer and sells some pretty and inspirational things on the side. I love the journal and it’s one of my favourite things to give my girlfriends for gifts.

Check out Fran and her Gratitude Journal here.

Succulents-title

♥ Succulents in Recycled Tin Cans

How amazing is this project from Caz at Home Heart Haven? Make a very stylish pot plant for very little cost and effort. I love succulents – not only do they look spectacular, but they are hard to kill!

Read how to do it here.

Red Boat Fish Sauce - OOAB

♥ Red Boat Fish Sauce

Yummo – we have been loving the Red Boat Fish Sauce in our asian cooking. How amazing is this! Fish sauce with no sugar, no nasties, no preservatives. It’s made with traditional fermentation methods, it uses only anchovies and salt and it’s full of protein and vitamins and minerals. A two ingredient product? Unheard of! It’s a favourite with those following the paleo way of living too – many asian sauces are loaded with msg, sugar and all sorts of additives.

Zucchini Hash Browns

March 24, 2014 · 67 Comments

Zucchini Hashbrowns - Gluten Free, Dairy Free

Is your family gluten-free?

You are going to love this fabulous cookbook from Tracey Black, Gluten Free Real Food Recipes for Kids! Actually, even if you aren’t gluten-free you will still love it!

Tracey has kindly let me share one of her yummy recipes with you and she is giving away two copies of her cookbook. But let’s talk about the food first.

This recipe is so, so easy but so tasty. I did tweak Tracey’s recipe to make them dairy free as well (and because I didn’t have any parmesan cheese in the fridge!). I used nutritional yeast flakes (sometimes called savoury yeast flakes) instead and they still tasted nice and cheesey! Yeast flakes are also a great source of B vitamins. These would be fabulous served with a dollop of cashew sour cream and some homemade salsa (if I also had that stuff in the fridge!)

Tracey says “Pre-packaged hash browns in the grocery store are often laden with fillers and artificial ingredients. Make your own using zucchini to cut out the processed ingredients for a yummy breakfast (or anytime) side dish that’s nutritious and gluten free.”

[box] Tip: Replace zucchini with carrots, sweet potato or potato – or try a combination of your favorite root vegetables. You can also replace the gluten-free flour with coconut flour to make this dish grain free[/box]

Zucchini Hash Browns

Vital Stats: Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free, Vegetarian

So, this is what you need:

• 2 cups (about 3 medium) organic zucchini, grated
• 2 tbsp onion, finely chopped
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1/8 tspn of Himalayan Pink salt (I used Herbamare)
• Fresh ground pepper, to taste
• 1/4 cup organic Parmesan cheese, grated (or 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast flakes)
• 1 egg
• 2 tbsp plain gluten-free flour (Tracey has a recipe to make your own)
• 5 tbsp organic coconut oil (for frying)

So, this is what you do:

1.Remove excess water from grated zucchini either with a cloth napkin or drain for a few minutes – squeezing
the zucchini to get the water out.
2. Heat a large frypan (cast iron is good) to medium and add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Cook the onions until soft and remove from heat. Return frypan to stovetop and heat remaining coconut oil.
3. In a medium-sized bowl, add egg, flour, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix well.
4. Add zucchini, onion and cheese to egg and flour mixture. Mix well.
5. Scoop a spoonful of mixture and place in frypan. Repeat as needed to fill frypan with about 2 inches between each hash brown.
6. Cook about 3-5 minutes on each side, and then set aside on a wire cooling rack so the hash browns don’t get
soggy.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all hash browns are cooked.

Tracey’s cookbook, Gluten Free – Real Food Recipes for Kids is fast becoming a family favourite around here.  The kids are keen for me to make the Almond Butter Choc Chip Cookies, but I want to try out the Probiotic Ranch Dressing (how cool)!

There are over 70 family friendly recipes. No artificial ingredients or processed foods are used.  Tracey has kid-tested all the recipes on her own three boys! Recipes include  kid-favourites such as Pizza and Chicken Fingers – as well as more modern cuisine such as Quinoa, Feta and Tomato Salad and GrainFree Fish Tacos.

profile-pic-223x300

All the recipes are gluten free and there are many vegan, vegetarian, grain-free, dairy-free and egg-free options. Tracey has included everything from snacks to drinks, breakfasts, main meals, lunchbox ideas and sweet treats.

But it’s not all just recipes, Tracey has some great information for you as well. Discover which foods and ingredients are toxic and should be avoided – as well as real foods your family needs for real nourishment. There’s also an extensive section on how to decode food labels, all about real food nutrition, kitchen staples and tips to get kids to become better eaters.

[box] Special Offer! Until the end of March, all my readers can purchase Gluten Free – Real Food Recipes for Kids for just $9.99 instead of the regular price of $22.95. Just use the coupon code: SPRING. Go here. [/box]

Raw Food 4 Kids

September 21, 2013 · 186 Comments

Raw Food 4 Kids

Natural new age mum, Sarah Nolan, has just released her first book, Raw Food 4 Kids!

I am really excited to feature it on the blog today and give you a chance to win a copy.

Let me start by saying this book is not just for kids and it’s not just for raw foodies. It’s pretty much for anyone who wants to eat well. As well as being a great introductory book for people exploring a raw diet, it’s also great for people just looking for some healthy meal ideas and snacks for the kids.

download

I love the way Sarah has set out the book – it’s a funky design, bright, colourful and easy to read. As well as over 100 recipes – all of which are raw, dairy-free, gluten-free and additive-free, Sarah also gives us a lot of tips and info on eating healthy.

I hadn’t even had a chance to open the book before my beautiful daughter raced off with it and made the Raw Chocolate! Yes, it was delicious! I am dying to make the Raw Cheese which is based on macadamia nuts but looks like real cheese. Some other recipes that caught my eye were Buckwheat Crunchies, Raw Pizza, Apple Goji Bars, Vegie Crackers and Chocolate Brownies.

Sarah has done a brilliant job with this book and she is going to be helping families everywhere to eat better. You can get it in print form or as an ebook.

You might be wondering……. What is RAW?

The raw food diet is where you eat food that has not been heated above 46° celsius. It includes fruit, veges, nuts, seeds, sprouts, superfoods, seaweed and cold pressed oils.

Sarah and her family have been eating this way for four years and after following her on Facebook and reading this book, she has convinced me to add lots more raw food into our family’s diet.

Why are the benefits of……  going RAW?

Well, lots and you will have to read the book!  But, the one thing that really stood out for me was that eating more raw food alkalizes your body. Too much acidity in your body encourages decomposition, decay, disease and energy loss. You can start by adding one raw meal into your diet or eating raw snacks or eating raw food with every meal. It’s not hard!

But I don’t have…… a dehydrator!

It’s cool! If you don’t have a dehydrator, you can use your oven on a low setting with the door ajar. It won’t be necessarily ‘raw’ but they will still be a healthier option.
