Get your sexy back (aka natural libido boosters)
I was having a chat with some of my natural, new age, mum type friends the other day. We got talking about lack of mojo in the bedroom after motherhood. Turns out this is pretty common but not often talked about. Then we got to discussing ways to get your mojo back and did a bit of brain-storming.
In my normal fashion I said – I have to blog about this!
I learnt some great info and I had to pass it on (I made them spill their secrets). So if you’d like to get your mojo back, here are some natural and new age ways to do it.
♥ Get well. If you are fit and in good health, you are much more likely to have mojo! Get plenty of sleep, exercise and water and eat well.
♥ Let go. I am talking about letting go of expectations, old beliefs, negative thoughts, or even what you think is ‘normal’ about sex. Everyone and every relationship is different. There is no right or wrong or normal. If you need help with this, get some counselling or use a natural therapy like EFT to help clear any blocks you might have.
♥ Herbs. The Naughty Naturopath Mum says that “certain herbs can have an impact on raising oestrogen and testosterone which can often lead to increasing the sex drive as well.” It’s probably best to get a consultation with a naturopath or herbalist, but here are some you might want to look out for: damiana, shatavari, muira puama, gingko biloba, yohimbe, horny goat weed, tribulus and ginseng. Quite often you will find these packaged together in a capsule form, so ask at the health food store.
♥ Hormone Balancing drops. Nicole at Puraforce Remedies recommends her Hormone Balancer Drops. She says “these all natural homoeopathic drops promote balance, emotional stability and increase libido. This tried and tested formula is particularly useful for women who are on anti-depressants and ‘don’t feel like their old selves.’ This remedy can be taken safely to assist women get their motivation back in the bedroom and encourage them to be physically and emotionally balanced.”
♥ Food. Okay so it seems like oysters are definitely aphrodisiacs! They contain high amounts of zinc which is necessary for the production and release of sex hormones. If you can’t stomach oysters, you can also find zinc in crab, cashews, chicken, pumpkin seeds and chickpeas.
Get into the good quality organic chocolate or Crio Bru. “The Journal of Sexual Medicine published a study that found, women who enjoyed a piece of chocolate every day had a more active sex life than those who didn’t.” – Organic Authority (you don’t need to tell me twice to eat chocolate every day!)
♥ Aromatherapy. Romance and Intimacy is a gorgeous essential oil blend from Kim at Twenty 8. Put some drops in a diffuser in the bedroom or add some drops to jojoba oil and use it as a moisturizer or for massage.
One of Kim’s customers had this to say “Girls, just quietly, sometimes it’s not so easy to “flick the switch” and be “in the mood” but with this bottle of magic on hand, your switch can be flicked at literally a moment’s notice. True. I’ve been using it for almost four years now and let’s just say, I’ve never been happier. Nor has my husband ;)” Nikki P
♥ Crystals. Megan Koufos is my go-to girl for crystal healing and has some great advice. She says “if I was to choose one crystal for libido it would be red tiger eye. You can also use a crystal grid while you are meditating. Either get someone to help you, or set up the quartz points around your body, and place the other stones on your chakras when you lie down:
Kunzite at crown chakra
Pink tourmaline at heart chakra
Garnet at solar plexus
Red Tigers Eye at sacral plexus
Red Jasper at base chakra
Serpentine between thighs
8 clear quartz points:
1 above the kunzite at crown chakra – pointing up
2 pointing away from your body at either shoulder
2 pointing into your body at either hip
2 pointing into your body at either knee
1 pointing up between your legs under the serpentine
This connects the energy of the lower chakras and helps the energy rise to up through the body. It helps with libido as it balances hormones, increases energy and stamina, increases blood flow to the sexual organs, renews passion, balances and integrates male/female energies, inspires self-love, opens pathways for kundalini.”
♥ Feng Shui. Megan also says that “putting some rose quartz in your relationship corner (furthest right hand corner of the room looking in from the door) can help with those loving feelings”. Nikki from Wonderfully Women has some more feng shui tips for increasing romance in the bedroom.
♥ Yoga. Practicing yoga creates an amazing awareness of your body, confidence in yourself, flexibility and relaxation. It also strengthens your pelvic floor and increases blood flow to your pelvis which heightens sensitivity and increases desire. I reckon it’s the perfect exercise for boosting your libido! Check out these poses that can help you improve your sex life.
♥ Chill out. Stress is a huge factor in low libido, so find ways to get more relaxation into your life. Take up yoga, meditation, tai chi or just walking in the park.
♥ Romance. Yes! It’s old-fashioned but it works! Get a babysitter, schedule in some time together, hang out and enjoy each other’s company. You are worth it.
♥ Fake it till you make it. Much is written about the benefits of just going for it without necessarily being ‘in the mood’. Sometimes the mood will then appear of it’s own accord. You could always check out these … ahem.. Smile Makers for some more fun.
The lovely Brenda Janscheck, health coach, also has some thoughts about natural libido enhancers which you can read here.
