A proud mumma moment.
My handsome boy, who is nearly 14, asked me to get him some gelatine today. What for? I asked.
I am going to make my own home-made hair gel – it’s cheap and it’s got nothing artificial in it, he says.
Winner!
He had researched on Google and found a recipe on Yahoo.
It’s so easy. You have to try it!
Okay, so this is what you need:
1/2 teaspoon of gelatine (if you are vegan, you might like to try agar agar)
Okay, so this is how you do it:
Whisk the gelatine into the hot water. Put into the fridge until it sets. Mix it up well before you use it.
Use a tiny bit on your hair and rub it through well.
Check out the gorgeous curls on my boy – the girls at school always want to touch them ! 😉
If you want it to smell nice, you can add some essential oils.
It will keep for a week in the fridge in a sealed container.
So, I am pretty happy that my boy is thinking about what products he is using and trying to come up with alternatives. Not only is this natural, it’s cheap too!
Have you made your own hair products?
Wow! You must be really proud of your boy. You are clearly a fabulous role model.
awwww thanks Fairy… you musn’t have read the post I did about him hiding chocolates… ha ha…. we are getting there!! 😀
Love it!!! I think I will have to give this one a try. Thank you NNAB for thinking outside the square. Thank you NNAM for sharing xx
It will probably keep the lice away too with the addition of some essential oils! 🙂
We make our own everything we can, one of them is homemade hairspray which I find works heaps better than any that I’ve bought. It doesn’t weigh my ultra fine hair down and it brushes out, unlike the bought stuff that needs shampooing out (we are ‘poo free in our house).
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons sugar
2 Tablespoons rubbing alcohol
6-8 drops essential oils (optional)
Heat water to a boil and turn off heat source. Add 2 tsps of sugar and stir until completely dissolved. Then add 2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol and 6-8 drops of your favorite essential oil scent (optional).
It’s a recipe I found on Pinterest – http://pinterest.com/pin/280771357989167204/
thank you Ms Hippy – that sounds great !!! 🙂
Love it. Might try this to manage little Miss’ fly aways.
you might need a little less gelatine if she has fine hair 🙂
That’s a great idea! What a clever young bloke 🙂
Which oils – tea tree?
you can use anything you want Zana but if you use tea tree you have the added bonus of keeping head lice away 🙂
Cleaver Trevor! I will try these eventually Hair Gel for my Boyfriend and Hairspray for my mum 🙂
